Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Whatever side of the Baker spectrum you sit on, you have to notice he just doesn't have the juice right now (and I'm not talking about Jarvis). I haven't seen guys look to play their hardest for him...I haven't seen guys go check in on him...I haven't seen any camaraderie or enjoyment being around him. I hear dudes respecting the QB position and saying the right things about toughness and gutting it out. I haven't seen any of the players seemingly caring about *Baker*, though.

Has anyone else noticed it? It looks so different with other teams; even other QBs playing poorly. Not with Baker, though...

That’s because a lot of guys supported OBJ in that Locke room and didn’t want to see him leave in an either or situation.

Baker has been a bit of a loner since the trade minus the CIN game.

No chance in hell. Literally anything, including continuing to play Baker, would be better than playing a rookie QB. That would set us back *at least* an additional 3 years, when the defense and o-line are set up to win right now.

Unless the rookie is, you know, actually good.

A lot of rookie QB's suck, but generally that's because they go to really terrible football teams. The Browns seemingly have the OL and running game to support a QB that generally has a pulse.

Plus if you look at the last like several draft classes, at least one rookie QB has been able to outproduce what Mayfield has done this year.

Is this really true though? What pass-catcher scares an oopposing defense?
90% of the time CHUNT is dominating on the ground and we only need Baker to make some easy throws.

The games where the defense can successfully shut down the run, we only need Baker to make multiple reads in spreading the ball out. He can't do that. Stefanski's offense his handcuffed by that limitation, even if our pass-catchers aren't great.

We didn't need Baker to drop 40 tonight. We just needed 17 points... that's it. 17. Off 4 interceptions. Even with our pass-catchers, we can still output more.

The pass catchers generally aren't spectacular, but the running game and OL are.

The Browns also generally scheme up a lot of really easy stuff on 1st and 2nd down for the QB too.

Lmao buddy boy there are double digit plays we can focus on if you would like

Baker fucking blew it in every sense of the word

There was the fumble and the throw that should've been picked. Now let's talk drops, Jarvis' fumble, Chubb/Hunt struggling, Stefanski's playcalling, the missed FG. This team has far bigger issues than QB.

This team has issues other than QB I agree. But bigger issues than QB is where we disagree. I do agree our WR corps are probably the single worst in the league. But like... the OLINE and RBs are pretty damn good at the same time

No matter how talented the rookie is, nothing makes up for reps and experience, and familiarity with reading different kinds of NFL defenses. Those things only come with time.

You cannot make a deep playoff run with a rookie QB. You’re punting at least two seasons away.

Here is the play. Only NFL Mexico shared this play for whatever reason lol. I will admit it developed faster than I remember, BUT:

1. the throw was absolutely there
2. If you are not sure it is there, ok. But there is a difference between not sure it is there, take the sack. And not sure it is there, better fumble

We have the best OL in the NFL

Best RB duo in the NFL

and we have rocket surgeons in here questioning if we have a QB friendly offense

@Steve_424

The exact statement was "one of the most QB friendly offenses ever", not "QB friendly". I'm not a rocket surgeon (?) but I at least I'm good with reading comprehension.

Um, no.

Far more issues? Sure, maybe.

Far bigger issues? No, not even close.

Any competent QB wins this game by double digits. Hell, any competent QB would have this team atop the division right now.

No matter how you evaluate Baker, with numbers, the eye test, common sense, whatever....he sucks this season and nobody else has done less to help this team win (or more to hurt his team's chances to win) than Baker. He's a garbage can out there right now and frankly has no business being on the field.
