Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I need the film breakdown podcast ASAP.

Baker should sit alone in a room and just get screamed at every single double clutch.

That was some crazy camera work this game.

They caught Case 2 or 3 times, what kind of looked like, undressing Baker on the coverage read.

Just very firmly giving him the “this is what they are doing to you” and showing him the coverage sequencing.

It is just clear Baker needs to just have surgery and try to regroup. Maybe we’ll hold on until the next Ravens game but if we lose that, just shut it down.

There’s no point if we drop both to Baltimore.

Stubborn. Nice.

Stefanski really is tying his ship to Baker. All that talk of Baker being forced on him and he doesn’t actually want to play him/doesn’t trust him is wrong. It’s the exact opposite.

If we lose both to Baltimore again, I want to go 6-11. Should be a top 12 pick in a draft with 4-5 non QB/WR locks as top ten.

Also, why do the Browns pay so much for a back-up QB that is in need that they refuse to play.

Baker can be hobbled, mental, or just plain not good and still give us the best chance to win and still be the right call for the locker room. All of these things can be true.

It’s the right call. The only decision to me made is what to do in the off-season. It doesn’t need to be a discussion at this point. Just hope you can wrap up 10-7 and have a little bit of positive momentum into next year.

He had a point. Bake should not have been playing all these weeks. He shouldn't have played against Detroit and tonight.
Agreed. No reason for him to play. That's on the team for not sitting him due to injuries. The Browns could have either had wins, or the same situation, with Baker in a better spot.

Now we got this shit.

Seems like more of a bigger picture play.

We just have to eat the season.

Benching him sours the relationship and tanks whatever additive trade value he has in the off season.

We are going nowhere. Just play him and pretend he’s the starter. Case isn’t saving the season, so just don’t compound the problem at this point.

That is just patently false though.

Baker hobbling around, double clutching on every play, paying more attention to the pass rushers than his receivers, etc. He is so clearly frazzled.
That is not better than Case Keenum.

And if it isn't, we should stop having such a highly paid backup.

It's just more layered than this.

Mayfield is under contract for 2022 for a fully guaranteed $18.8M.

As much as I believe he's not the guy and the Browns should move on as quickly as they can, there's a very legitimate chance he's the starting QB for the Browns in 2022 by default.

Right or wrong, the Browns run the risk of torpedoing the 2022 season before it even begins by benching Mayfield for performance reasons.

If they bench him, given his personality, his tenure in Cleveland is 100% over. And that not only kills his trade value, but also needlessly takes a potential starting option off the table before the Browns want it to be taken off the table.

I feel like this is the one instance where a decision just isn’t made in a vacuum though.

We bench him, we have him mad, his wife is on the gram blasting out content, his agent is burning the house down.

We also then destroy any and all trade value he has left and possibly, in turn, make him not even a neutral but a negative asset.

It is not a shocker to all here that I don’t like him as a an option moving forward but we have to just put him out there. Going to Keenum does nothing for us IMO.

Browns aren't making the playoffs, I just want 9 wins. And people need to stop with this talk of losing out for a better pick. This isn't the fucking NBA.

Honestly the season is over at this point so might as well roll with Mayfield.

But this was the kind of game where the playoffs were on the line where I wish we had a coach who had the fucking balls to go to the guy who had the ability to complete a screen pass

Because our playoff chances died tonight. And we really didn't do much to stop that
