I completely agree with your point here. Simmons very likely is an asshole. I’m just saying that Embiid, Doc, Morey, and the whole city of Philadelphia except for @2 For The Brew are also assholes. This situation sucks for them. I just don’t see why Simmons seems to be the only one taking the brunt of the criticism for it like it’s his fault he can’t hit a 3.

It’s gotten to the point where all the rest of his elite level of play is being completely ignored and that’s so strange to me. He doesn’t “suck”, he’s not “one of the worst contracts in the NBA”, he’s not “untradeable”, he didn’t “quit” playing elite level defense and playmaking in the playoffs, etc..

Here I am standing up for a guy I don’t even really like, but I guess my main point is the legend of Ben Simmons problems have far far exceeded the reality.

The Cavs have shown interest. We probably need to all prepare ourselves at least for the possibility and have some faith in Koby.
Oh no, I’m definitely an asshole. I respectfully suggest that most people here haven’t watched Ben and his journey as closely as those of us in the Philly area, much like Cavalier Fans like me didn’t see enough of Andre Drummond and we wondered why the NBA leading rebounder with those physical tools wasn’t all that. We found out.

Ben has phenomenal skills and athleticism and should be an MVP candidate. Nobody questions his defensive ability, passing and ability to finish at the rim when uncontested. His flaws however are severe and mostly stem from a horrible attitude which has gone downhill since he signed his max contract.

Opinion was sharply divided in Philly on Ben, and in his case sharply divided even in people’s own minds. So much to like; so much to dislike. As can be imagined there were some stans and some haters, but most 6ers fans believed they had something special with Embiid, Ben, Fultz (yikes!), Jimmy Butler, then Harris, Green, Curry, Maxey, Thybulle. The 6ers and fans desperately wanted this to work. Every offseason Ben was supposedly working on his shot; every year he disappointed. Then he couldn’t hit FT in spring 2019 and Boston forced him off the floor; and then earlier this year completely collapsed against Atlanta. Positively refused to shoot at all from anywhere, including a slam dunk. 33% FT shooting. His behavior in the offseason and before the season started has been atrocious. Guys get over shit; bitches never do, and he’s a world class bitch.

Ben is a serious head case. He’s like the chick who is smoking hot but batshit crazy. There are always going to be guys obsessed with the hot who talk themselves into “well she can’t be THAT crazy” even if there is a trail of boiled bunnies. Go and get Ben on your team; don’t claim later you weren’t warned.

The issue for the Cavs is that offensively, he possesses only one viable skill, and it is one we already have. Taking the role of primary distributor away from Garland and giving it to Simmons is not an improvement. And his critical weakness is one that would be exacerbated by what we'd have to give up to acquire him. Different situation if pairing him with Sexton in the starting backcourt was on the table because that is at least a better fit in terms of style.
I don't understand that...

Garland and Rubio on the court together is the 2nd best Cavs two man lineup (with more than 100 minutes playing together):

The Cavs are at their best when Garland is paired up with another PG who can run the offense.

On his current Garland will get a max contract. Ben has a max contract. So two max contracts for PG - yeah, that’s a brilliant move.

Last thing Garland needs is this guy sucking up his oxygen.

We'd be paying Simmons: $35M/$37M/$40M

Our current plan going into this year was going to be something like paying Sexton something like $22M/25M/27M....

So the difference is like a Cedi Osman.

Trading a 22m contract is much much easier than a 35-40m one regardless of what is attached

If you think that is a valid conclusion to draw from the specific example of how the Garland/Rubio pairing worked statistically compared to our other options, go for it.

But to throw just one consideration in there - Rubio made 59 three pointers this season. Simmons has attempted a total of only 34 in his entire career. In fact, Rubio made more three pointers in one game this year than Simmons has in his entire career.

I'm beginning to think this won't happen

Dammit I’m comparing people to Hitler on the internet.
Philly media compared Carson Wentz and Ben Simmons to Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. I'm not a fan of either player but that comparison was way over the top.

I would support a Simmons trade. We need playmaking and he is a tremendous defender. It's all about the asking price. Not trading Mobley or Garland obviously. It would probably need a third team to make it work.

Wouldn't help our spacing one bit.

After going through "The Process" and ending up with Embiid and Simmons while cycling though so many picks, I just think Philly will wait it out for a package for a star player that can help during their window vs getting draft picks. I think they are probably hoping for a disgruntled star to come on the market so they can make a swap.

But it would help out with our play making, defense, fast break offense
Simmons needs a five-out scheme to be able to make plays. It's all about his dribbling, post-ups and kick outs.

We can't run anything like that as long as dudes like Allen, Mobley and Okoro are playing heavy minutes.

Okoro would be including in that trade. But I think Allen and Mobley would work out. Obviously a 4 out system is simmons best case scenario but Mobley has shown range and Allen/simmons would be one of the leagues best lob connections. Simmons has always been a great passer and setup man. He’s still a threat at the rim and would either cause the defense to collapse or an easy dunk.
