Bobby BradGOAT

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't understand why anyone would use the term "GOAT" in connection with Bobby Bradley, but I don't think it's worth getting angry about, irrational or otherwise.

I just know it's the thread posters odd habit, so I just ignore it personally lol

It's an annoying title - but whatever.

As far as Bradley goes.. He has got warts.. Lots of them.. However, he also could end up hitting 40+ bombs in a season at the league minimum while playing average to decent 1st Base.

If he can hit north of .200 and closer to .250 while slugging .500+ - YOU TAKE THAT based on the current lineup. There are bigger holes to fill. Having Bobby produce heavy slugging numbers out of the 6th/7th hole is not a problem.

We can revisit after we have addressed the outfield.

It’s a fun name for a player I like personally. Some of you guys could use the helpful reminder that this is a game we’re all talking about. Not corporate accounting.

It's your thing, it doesn't bother me. It is obnoxious IMO - but to each there own.. I have my own annoying idiosyncrasies I'm sure. Oh and I am kinda of old too.

Anyway, carry on.

If you compare Bradley to Bauers, he may not be the GOAT, but he is the BOABL.

Best of a bad lot.

I like the idea of what Bobby can do, but there better be a backup plan. Someone that can play a corner OF spot as well would be ideal. Wish in one hand and...........

With Bradley it's pretty simple - he's great when he's ahead in the count and helpless when he gets behind.

When Bradley puts the ball in play when the count is 1-0, 2-1, or 3-1 he is hitting .406. (He never put the ball in play on a 2-0 count, which is astonishing).

When he puts the ball in play, or swings and misses, when the count is 0-1, 0-2, or 1-2 he's hitting .156. When he hits or misses a 2-2 pitch he's hitting .150.

Bradley is a horrible two-strike hitter. He's hitting .110 (15-for-136) with two strikes.

The most amazing stat is that he's 0-for-24 on a 3-2 count with 19 K's. He does have 15 walks, however. So in the 39 times he has had a 3-2 count this season he does not have a hit and has put the ball in play 5 times.

He also struggles on the road. His home/road OPS is .858/.629. His mom should pack him lunches for road trips.

One thing you can say for Bradley, he's very motivated, having lost a lot of weight and gotten in much better shape. He's trying to take outside pitches to left-center and having some success. I would like to see him get a full season of playing every day and see what he can do. He just turned 25 in May. But if he is to make it in the bigs the coaches need to work with him on his two-strike hitting. I think he gets nervous about being called out and chases pitches out of the zone that he would take early in the count.

I've always wondered whether hitters' production would improve if they forced themselves to pretend the count was 0-0 on every pitch, regardless of the actual count. How many times have I seen hitters take close pitches for balls early in the count and then chase the same pitch with two strikes, getting themselves out? You hear announcers talk about "expanding the strike zone" with two strikes. It's true - batters will chase pitches with two strikes that they won't swing at with zero or one strike. Amed is a good example.

My belief is that hitters make a lot more outs chasing bad pitches with two strikes than they would if they took those pitches and got called out a few more times. I think Bradley has no chance of being a successful big league player as long as he hits .110 with two strikes on him.

Those are some bizarre stats. Wouldn't have believed they were even possible.

Friendly reminder that Franmil got reps at 1B last Spring and it isn't like they stopped those reps during the season...

But Bobby deserves a chance to show he can develop and adjust to how pitchers adjusted to him.
I don't remember that... I just figured that he was too prone to poor decision making to play the infield! (I base this on his confounding baserunning gaffes.)

I'd sure play him in RF before I'd play Harold, or even most of those other guys. Certainly before Naylor.

there is nothing better than an athletic 1B to make all the catches in and around 1B...save perhaps, a guy that 6 foot 6 inches and a huge wing span.. Playing 1B should be a destination point for Franmill.. just give him a shovel and let him dig it !

How many plate appearances do you want to see from him then before making a determination one way or the other?

Generally speaking.. the number of at bats that are consistently seen should be in the 500 - 600 level before making the determination what a player is.. the next range of AB's, as he is approaching 1000 AB's in total confirms that determination.. Injuries and odd circumstances can push these numbers out a bit.. but not much..

Thoughts?..
