With all this Redd and Allen talk, let's twirl around another name.
Do we really need a pure shooter to complement LeBron? How about a Simmons type who can get open and hit his shots? Someone that has the long arms to evolve into a lockdown defender? Someone that doesn't have a big head that follows a max contract? Simmons would probably be a good option if we miss out on the max sweepstakes. Given that, we'll probably overpay a bit to pry him from LAC and still have room to sign up a decent FA to role play some more. Cliff Robinson, Donyell Marshall, perhaps even SAR.
Sportsline.com reports: Bobby Simmons, L.A. Clippers: The former DePaul standout picked a great time to blossom, garnering most improved player honors during a contract year. Although he toiled in the relative obscurity that envelops the Clippers, he demonstrated a knack for knocking down the big shot, developed a killer midrange jumper to complement his scrappy play around the basket, and is long enough to provide defensive resistance. Of the threes available, he's the one certain starter, and he's in for a big payday, be it from the Clips or someone else.
