Brandon Too GoodWIN Two Be True

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'll eat my crow on this if I have to, but for now, I foresee some trouble if JBB decides to roll with Goodwin (as he should).
Give the man a chance first. Yes, Goodwin has improved noticeably and the way he can push pace is probably his most useful trait to the team, but he struggles running two-man games and getting the ball into the post. Unless one of our bigs is established and surrounded by space, Goodwin won't toss it to them; he is scared to turn it over. These are things Rondo provides.

I would not say Goodwin hasn't stuck because he is bad at basketball. His career went off the rails in college, and he has been fighting his way into the league ever since.. not a lot of guys come out undrafted and keep find 10 day spots or two ways for three years unless they have something..

He has good speed on the dribble. His fist step is not elite but is pretty good, and he is unselfish.. Does not make a lot of mistakes handling the ball. The knock on him is shooting, which appears to be improving.. He seems fine with physical contact and defends aggressively on ball..

I think he struggles against bigger guys with handles, and a guard like Simmons would just play over his head.. but I think he spells Garland and provides a change of pace.. but he'll never get the star player calls.. Eventually Garland will..

Rondo is an entirely different animal. I think he can still play at an elite level for short bursts, and has the confidence and street cred to run with the best.. If I am JBB, I give him enough minutes to keep him sharp, but no more than necessary til we hit crunch time.

His three ball has been a welcome surprise recently. He is a guy I think we should look to develop long term. Can always use a cheap
guard that can play like him.

He’s not better and should not play over Rondo. That’s asinine.

But he can get minutes even with Rondo. Could really help us keep DG fresh. He could play 12 mins here and there and affect games. For now he’s running with a good opportunity. He should be with us the remainder of the season for sure.

Thats it right there, Rondo should be the back-up, especially in a playoff run. Goodwin can play 8 mins or so a game just to help keep down the mins for garland and even rondo at his age.

Nah. 48 minutes is enough for Darius and Rondo combined. Don't need 3 guys splitting up 48 minutes. Especially when one of them is performing at an all star level.

But he's good to have around when one of DG or RR is unavailable.

Darius could also play a few mpg at the 2 depending on matchups. We’re a bit light on players who are good at the 2. He was playing the 2 with Rubio before he got hurt.

Generally I’d agree and maybe we could go that route and lean on him on back to backs against some weaker teams but I have some worries about Darius’s back at the moment where I don’t mind the thought of all three getting sone minutes. His back is definitely no where near 100%, granted just had a long road stretch so maybe it will sort off naturally but at the end of the trip and yesterday it was quite noticeable at points during the broadcast imo.

Goodwin is not a good three point shooter, and he isn't in the process of becoming one in Cleveland. In fact, he's been a remarkably consistent below average shooter throughout his entire basketball career.

In 126 games in college, he shot 30.1% from 3.
In 104 games in the NBA, he's shot 30.6 from 3.
In 7 games with the Cavs, he's shot 30.8 from 3.

He's a better option than Pangos because he can actually run an offense, but being the emergency/3rd PG on a roster is exactly where he belongs.

He is on a 2 way contact and Goodwin is exactly what we hoped Pangos was. Not sure why that isnt good enough.

Goodwin is a legit NBA player who will possibly make our roster next year as the 14th or 15th player. I will take that for two way contract currently.

We'll...it is good enough. I said he was better than Pangos, and exactly belongs as an emergency/third PG.

I posted about his shooting because some folks were commenting upon his "improved shooting", and perhaps overvaluing him. He does have a bench role, but I think anyone hoping he's going to become a good shooter and rotational piece (absent injury) is likely to be disappointed.

Right. Assuming he’s suddenly going to get good at 3P shooting is delusional sunshine pumper rose tinted glasses.

Also, it is rich that the posters pumping Goodwin's "improved shooting" from 3 (he is 4/13 from 3 in 166 MP) are, for the most part, the same posters saying Rondo can't shoot (6/14 in his 65 MP with the Cavs). If the Cavs are relying on both of them to shoot, that's not good.

You don't keep Goodwin around because of his shooting. You keep him around because having a guy on your roster that can push the pace and take care of the ball is a valuable thing to have somewhere on your roster.

Even with Rondo back, he is a perfect wrinkle to toss in when games get stagnant and slow to a halt and the Cavs need to find something different to break that. JBB has been doing that a bit more lately, most recently it was inserting Windler out of nowhere in OKC to get shooting on the floor to try to cut a deficit.

A 4/1 assist to TO ratio guy who plays at a high pace and pushes the ball like Goodwin is something that is not on this team at the moment. His effort defensively and quick hands are an added bonus.

At this point, Goodwin is a Cavs legend compared to Rondo.

Rondo is just a rumor.

Goodwin is gold. He should be our 3rd guy, but they can usually survive with him as a backup. Major major win for an undrafted guy
