I'm seeing a number of people who claim they were vaccinated who tested positive. I mentioned this before, but the Delta variant may be the cause here.

Are they testing vaccinated players? And further, if they did have COVID, do they still get placed on the COVID list? Pretty sure CDC says you don't have to quarantine.

Also, it's not like the vaccine goes out into the air and prevents the virus from ever entering your body.

It just means that, once the virus enters your body, you're more prepared to fight it. Instead of being caught with your pants down, your little soldiers are ready, acting like they're veterans who have seen this shit before.

It's entirely possible to be vaccinated, be exposed to COVID, test positive, and not really have any symptoms or become infections enough to spread the disease to others. It's also possible to be vaccinated, be exposed, and still suffer symptoms and be contagious.

The people who assume a player who tests positive wasn't vaccinated are being dumb. The people who try to use this as an example of the vaccine being ineffective are being dumb as well.

Vaxxed players can return as soon as they have 2 negative tests 24 hrs apart.

edit - h/t to @bronko for the correction

One other factor may or may not be which shot people got. More younger people got the J&J vaccine which is one shot only because it's a lot more convenient. But I do believe there's information out there indicating a much higher rate of breakthrough infections with the J&J shot versus the MRNA versions.

Non-vaxxed players can return as soon as they have 2 negative tests 24 hrs apart.

I belive that's incorrect. Vaxxed players can return after two negative tests, unvaxxed go into a ten day quarantine, then can return with a negative test.

Just get the vaccine, you fucking idiots. Won’t think twice about getting shot up with performance enhancers and pain killers but draw the line at getting a vaccination shot.

So, are you making the comparison that JOK has decided to not get vaccinated AND uses performance enhancing drugs + pain killers?

What underlying medical conditions might he have that his medical team has cautioned to not get the vaccine; i.e risks do not outwight the benefits for him, personally?

From a bioethics standpoint, so many people are drawing conclusions irresponaibly and frankly, it is very dangerous.

I do not know JOK or his medical history, therefor, i cannot and will not make sweeping judgements. As a society, we are heading down a scary path about assuming [medically] what is right for some — is best for all.

Yup, meant to say vaxxed players.

It was more of a generalized statement. JOK could have got the vaccine and still tested positive. Idk. There’s just been a number of stories this weekend from players to coach’s who are dying on this silly hill and are willing to cost themselves a lot of money and their team wins, potentially. Yet many players will take performance enhancers, painkillers, and overall just play a sport that has long term physical effects on their body.

I get what you are saying, but what is missing in a lot of stories related to athletes or the masses in general, is context.

I am not a medical professional or even mildly educated on virology tied vaccination. What i do understand is bioethics and one of those principals is everyone has an individual choice to weigh risk vs. benefit. Whether I or anyone else likes it or not — it must remain this way for the integrity of risk based analysis of future medical intervention.

The last thing i want to do is pressure, guilt or assume the vaccine is safe for everyone and put someone through a life altering adverse reaction. Again, whether we like it or not — adverse reactions permanent or treatable and deaths WILL happen.

I, for one, will not be the arbiter of what is right/wrong or safe/not safe for anyone, except myself.

The cause is the fact vaccines dont mean you wont catch it, means very unlikely to get sick and almost zero chance of dying.

We dont know if JOK has any symptoms. Myles got very sick, thus the huge effect. We will find out if JOK has symptoms.

I think one of the biggest problems is the amount of misinformation being spread.

No one is pressuring people who have legitimate medical concerns with receiving a vaccine. The pressure is on people who are like, “COVID is no big deal.”

I've read that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are something like 92% effective at preventing any symptomatic reaction to the delta variant and 98%+ effective at preventing serious symptoms and hospitalization. J&J is a little lower in both respects.

JOK could very well have been vaccinated and not be experiencing any symptoms. I'm assuming these guys are getting tested frequently. The issue with the delta is how contagious it is. Going on the IR will better protect teammates and staff who aren't vaccinated.

Are they testing vaccinated players?

Pretty sure vaccinated players get tested once a week. Unvaccinated players are testing daily.

And I think it needs to be reiterated that no one is pressuring people with underlying conditions whose doctors have told them not to get vaccinated. However, that is only the situation of a very small portion of the unvaccinated population. Everyone should seek the advice of their primary physician rather than Facebook memes or other internet misinformation. If you can't trust your doctor with a question about your health, you certainly shouldn't be trusting some random asshole on social media.

My friends wife was told not by the doctor to get vaccinated till the half way through the 2nd tri-mester. But thats the only case I know of.
