BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah...

No way they dish a 2nd for Old Man River.

Another 4th maybe.
I think if we’re paying 97 or 115 + a 2021 2nd for Trent, we’d be getting another rostered player or a different mid round pick back from WAS

For example, something like 115 and 2021 2nd for Trent and 142

I’d trade a 4 now and a 2 next year. Absolutely. Then if a blue chip D player isn’t there at 10, trade back and get our 2nd and more back.

I could see it being a conditional deal. Something like this year's 4 + 2021 4, which can rise to a 2 if Williams is named All-Pro. Gives both sides some protection.

With all due respect to McCloughan (quoted upthread), we are talking about a 31-year-old who hasn't played in a season and a half. The Reggie White comp is a bit off because White was still performing at a high level. With Williams, it's more like "well, two years ago he was at a high level." I don't doubt that Trent could get back to that level, but I wouldn't pay the Redskins as though he will get back there.

Just because I sometimes see it in various sites and social media, Williams played 13 of 16 of the 2018 season including the final 6 games of the year.

Though he did not play a game in 2019, many people believe he could have and would have if he wasn’t in a Death Grudge Match with the WAS GM and some of their training/medical staff.

I just sometimes see people with the misnomer that the guy has missed two straight seasons of games or that he keeps attempting comebacks, only to get re-injured.

His injury and holdout was bizarre, but I think it was played up because of his animosity to the WAS staff and desire at that time for a new deal. It’s not a player coming off of multiple ACL surgeries or chronic back issues.

As long as the trade price is reasonable, I have no issue with trading him and looking to make him a part of this team for the next 3-5 years.

I mean, it’s her Twitter, not an article. No problem with it. She’s a beat writer who gets fed some stories and occasionally is first with a signing or news. Not a hard hittingcolumnist or investigative reporter.
Although Twitter is likely the top source for breaking sports news, it's also largely ruined creditable sports journalism. The race for first has shoved truth and accuracy out the window.

Maybe I’ll end up being totally wrong here, but I simply cannot see Andrew Berry and Paul DePodesta ever trading a top 60 pick in any draft (in this case a 2021 2nd) for a 32 year old who hasn’t played a full season in 6 years, hasn’t played period in 16 months and wants to get a new contract at the top 5 for his position.

Just cannot see anything close to that much compensation. Not for a front office that clearly values draft picks as much as this one and is in a position to acquire a LT in the draft on a 5-year contract at a fraction of the price.

Trent Williams, to me, is the third option. The backup plan to the backup plan.

Option 1 is acquire one of the top OTs at 10. IMO for the Browns that’s Wirfs or Thomas.

Option 2 is trading back from 10 and acquiring a tier 2 OT like Cleveland (probably), Jones or Jackson in the bottom half of the first round.

Option 3 is not taking a young OT at all and then acquiring Williams for light compensation. I would imagine that any possible Trent Williams trade involving the Browns wouldn’t happen until after tonight’s first round and the Browns have had a chance to see how everything has fleshed out.

I am wondering if the Trent Williams rumors are a back up scenario.

Maybe the Browns would take Wirfs, Wills or Thomas if they are there. If not, then they get Williams and either take someone else with 10 or trade down.

That is exactly what I think.

I think the Browns already know they can acquire Trent Williams if they want to. I believe they’ve already worked out exactly what compensation would look like if a deal were to go down.

So now we play the waiting game and see exactly how big the run is on OTs.

If it’s a huge run and the Browns end up getting shut out from getting the tackle they want (whether that’s at 10, in the teens or in the 20s), they can just circle back to Washington afterwards.

I think Williams is an option if one of the "big 4" are not selected (ignoring the fact i dont think they want all 4). Cleveland, Jones, and Jackson are all at the end of the day project picks, even if they are highly rated. I could absolutely see a world where the browns trade for Williams to become starter this year while one of the other guys learns behind him. Then after next year Williams walks. However I agree i see no way the browns give up anything more than a late 3rd or early 4th. This talk of a draft pick next year is absolutely ridiculous

If we’re going to do a Trent trade you gotta do it before the draft and get a physical. No way we do it during the draft without looking at his medical.

I just cannot envision a scenario where the Browns are comfortable giving up a top 100 pick for a guy who will play 1 year and then leave.

Conversely, I can't imagine Williams is going anywhere without a new contract.

If the Browns pick up Trent Williams, he is the starting LT for at least 2020 and 2021. There's no other way around it that's realistic.

We are talking pick 97 or 115. This is right on the top 100 range. The only way i would work a new contract with williams is if there were easy cuts after the first year and 2nd year. Because 100% without him having played in a year an a half i dont think its automatically worth a contract extension
