BROWNS OFF-SEASON 2020

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If we're talking about getting a vet LT and drafting his replacement, why can't we just sign Jason Peters to a 1 year deal? He was fine last year and would let the Browns either take BPA at 10 or trade down/up and get a lt of the future.

I wouldn't mind it myself.

If you're looking for an argument for Williams over Peters - Peters is 38 and could fall off a cliff anytime soon, and likely won't last very long. Williams will only be 32 and could give 3-4 pro bowl years. If Williams can be had for like a late 3rd or 4th round pick, you can justify taking him and paying him for a couple years, even though he has some health risks/concerns as well.

In terms of scheme, Williams seem more suited anyway due to having history in it as well as being more athletic than Peters.

One nice aspect is Andrew Berry was in Philly (w/ Jason Peters) last season.
Berry likely knows there if something is left in the tank with Peters (or not)..

Yeah, I'm wondering if once the draft plays out we'll see him and Williams on new teams. I feel like tackle needy teams are just waiting to see how the draft falls before they sign/trade one of them.

If the choice has to do with Williams for a 4th or Jason Peters, I'll take Williams honestly .
Jeff Risdon is saying on Locked on Browns that he is hearing the Browns are trading for Trent Williams for a conditional second-to-fourth round pick and will give him a one year extension.

He also thinks the Browns may completely trade out of the first round, but will definitely trade down.

How does he know this? No fucking idea. It could all be bullshit.

Fine with both, honestly. If they dont need an immediate starter at LT, 10 is a bad spot for their fits. Taking a LBer/S in the top 10 is not going to be ideal, Lamb might be gone...idk, might be better off getting a real king's ransom for 10.

Yeah I'd be ok with that too. As long as getting Williams is super reasonable, it makes our situation REALLY flexible.

That being said, there are a few guys I'd stay right there and draft if they somehow fall to us.

But is that all its going to take to get Williams? If it is, then I agree that the Browns should do it. But every report I've seen is if you want to trade for him you'll have to give up draft picks( seems like the rumor right now is a mid pick this year and one next year with incentives) and also giving him a contract extension. He's a good player when healthy (who know's if he will be though) and would be an instant upgrade.

That's why I'm more inclined to get Peters (short term starter and contract) while keeping our picks and future cap space. I wouldn't blame the Browns for trying for either player or just drafting a starter in the first. Having all these options are a good thing, we'll see what the Browns do.

The corpse of Jason Peters would give us more than anything we had at LT last year, even if its only for a handful of games.

He would come cheaper than Williams and much likelier to take a shorter deal considering his age. If they're still leaning towards Ezra Cleveland, Peters makes more sense as a stop-gap than Williams.

Still feels very risky and would rather draft one of our desired T's if they're available at 10.

doesn’t Peters jump offsides a lot? I remember philly fans complaining about that all the time. That would get frustrating.

That pick is worth 1300 points on the draft value chart.

My assumption is our roster is not good enough to take a future 1st and completely forgo an impact player for 2020.

So if that assumption is correct, trading out of the first would roughly be something like a 2nd and a 3rd in 2020 and a 2nd in 2021.

There's possibly a trade out there with Miami, if they let the draft come to them and still get their QB at #5. You could see them trading both of their 2's (#39, #56 + a future pick or player) for #10. I'm not sure I see another fit for this year, unless someone wants to deal with the Ravens (yuck). Long shot might be the Colts, if a QB fell, who also has two seconds this year.

If the Browns are trading with Miami, they better get one of their first rounders back this year. When I read the Browns trading out of the first, I took that as they would trade down in the 20s, then maybe one more time after that. To go from 10 to somewhere in the second would be quite the drop. I'm not sure that's ever been done before.
