Browns Sign: Jackson, Williams, Sowells, Harrison

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Been burned too many times to believe until the results are there. Things got better initially with Butch as well, or dont you remember?

You think signing two old guys that are here as much to teach as they are to play means we are going to make a run this year? I am glad they signed these guys and it will make us better but we aren't going from poor to Super Bowl in one year and those old timers are not long term solutions, more likely one maybe two year guys.

I am the most optimistic guy you know, just not foolish and very realistic.

Crennel has something that Butch never had... rings..

Butch was also the one who took Gerard Warren, and Tim Couch over Donovan McNabb..

They are here to teach, but have some left in the tank... McGinest has proved he is still an elite player in this league.. And gives us a big boost in pass-rushing..

While Washington isn't what he was, he certainly will help.. He solves the big run-stopping problem that have had..

I know... We are trying to improve every way we can...

We can't have all rookies on the team.. We need some veterans who can teach the youngsters.. Especially with recently implementing a new defensive scheme..

Butch got rings with Dallas, didn't make him good.

Easy to say now with hindsight that Butch made bad picks. What we dont know is if in 3 years we will be talking about the last two drafts as wastes or great strides. I dont assume either.

I remain hopeful but cautiously so. Lived throught too many this is the group that will win times with the Browns, Indians and Cavs to blindly think that because Romeo was on the staff of a team that won rings he will get it done here. Plenty of guys that won rings as coaches became HC only to get fired a few years later with little or no success.

So far I think the moves have been ok but not outstanding. Hope it works out.

What do you call Jurevicious or Bentley? Or even Zastudil?

"OK" moves? :thumbdown

Love the Bentley move, Jurevicious will help some short term probably an ok move with the plus of having local connections.

Just the fact that we have spent so much effort on the OL is enough to get me to support what they are trying to do.

Just list me as cautiously optimistic. Too many heartbreaks to buy in totally yet.

Let me be the devil's advocate for a turn:

Jurevicious is not that good and overachieved in a team with the MVP and one of the best O-Lines with a great QB! Look at his stats outside of last year.

RECEIVING STATS
Year No. Yards Avg. Long TD
1998 9 146 16.2 59 0
1999 18 318 17.7 71 1
2000 24 272 11.3 43 1
2001 51 706 13.8 46 3
2002 37 423 11.4 26 4
2003 12 118 9.8 22 2
2004 27 333 12.3 42 2
2005 55 694 12.6 52 10
He will be just OK in Cleveland.

Bentley is great but many can argue that we greatly OVERPAID, but I can tell u right now, that he will never see the pro-bowl ever again! Why? He is in Cleveland now. And if Coleman and Andruzi go down, then its pretty much all over. Is it guaranteed? No, but it is the realest possibility now.

Zastudil is an above average punter. He is no pro-bowler....or close to one!

So, as good as those moves seem, and they do seem good to use fans....they might seem a little too good to be true.

RUAN, lol your a joke dude. JOE WAS NEVER THE MAIN MAN UNTIL LAST SEASON, AND LOOK WHAT HE DID 10 TDS. he will be the main guy for us. so this was a GREAT pickup.

Alright player!

PS- Just so u know: He will not be the main guy here for long. Kellen and BE will be the main guys once they get up to speed!

You all struck out now know your role and shut your mouths jabroni's...

Jurevicius was brought in as a sure handed veteran WR for Frye. He isn't Steve Smith and he isn't Ricky Proehl either. He's a solid veteran. While Bryant would make an outstanding grab here or there he'd counter it with easy and unecessary drops.

Jurevicius is going to be sure handed and that's important for Frye's confidence. They didn't want him making perfect throws to bounce off of Bryant's hands they wanted a sure handed receiver to convert his passes and build his confidence which is essential when trying to bring along a young rookie quarterback. They are very fragile, Couch took a beating and never recovered, David Carr probably rivals Terry Bradshaw in terms of intelligence right now and it's important that Frye is surrounded by players that make him better.

The Steelers did it with Ben, they protected him and set up the game to where he had to really screw up to impact the game. Hit the wide open guys, avoid dangerous throws and hand the ball off. Our offensive line coupled with Dinkins (Blocking TE) Upgraded Line, Terrelle Smith and the type of RB Droughns is going to make Time of Posession a more favorable statistic this year. Lots of running plays and short passes until he is comfortable enough to improvise like Ben started to.

They want him to stand in the pocket and survey the field, last year he was basically saying HIKE and breaking into a full on sprint to save his life. When he's set I'm sure he has some good "umph" behind the ball.

Don't expect JJ to be a god or a goat..he's just JJ. He will do just fine till KW2 shakes the rust and BE returns. Hopefully we have some other decent young up and comers by then as well (Wilson, Cribbs, Friz, Rideau) to learn from him.

Bentley is by far the most impressive upstart linemen I've seen in a while. He is very versatile as he was a Pro Bowler at TWO positions. Most cases you hear this...Well he plays Center but if some injuries occur he can slide over to guard and do ok. That's not the case with him, he can Pro Bowl in both positions and I bet he'd make a decent guard too.

Law your post showed nothing but ignorance and blatant pessimism, your wanting to play devil's advocate not only drained your arguement of good intelligent points but overall just pissed me off with the whole "Cleveland can't have good players" type of tone.

Law..just stop talking it'd be best for everyone involved.

Its' not all about stats Ruanu..

It's his ability to be a possession WR... Something we sorely lacked last year.. He also gives us a Red-Zone threat, another thing we lacked..

He will be a great influence to the younger WRs' and help them to be better in the future, and the present...

No one is expecting him to be a Pro-Bowler or the leader in TD's or Receiving yards.. We just need him to be a reliable target that our young QB can rely on..

Overpaid? :chuckles:

The guy is a perennial Pro-Bowler who can play 3 interior line positions... He also is one of the best run-blockers in the game..

And who else would you want besides Bentley?

It has been no secret that our O-Line has been horrible since our return... So why not upgrade it by getting a premier O-Lineman? I mean come one.. It's not often when a Lineman of his caliber are on the open market..

No, listen! I was just trying to look at things from another side. But in reality, I AGREE WITH U!

Basically him giving in.. :chuckles: We got em Smooth

Frye better step it up this year. Will have talent around him, a line to protect him and being a local kid only buys you so much time before the fans turn into vultures. So far he hasn't shown me as much as other QBs since we got our nu Browns. But I keep hope alive. We should have built this quality a line before we ever used a high draft pick on a QB.

R u serious?

In other threads u have seen me be optimistic. In fact, I have predicted that we will either go 10-6 or 11-5 this year. Now how do u supposed one team can achieve that record with just OK guys!

Nice try to make ur self feel good. But not this time bro!
