Cavaliers Fantasy Trade Thread: 2020 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think Atkinson would be an upgrade over Bickerstaff.

The Cavs should not get cute & trade down. Secure Wiseman & trade back into the first round using Garland. We also have the Bucks pick which could net us another first in this years draft.

That's what I would do.

I see that you like to have multiple picks in this draft. I have mentioned a few draft trade scenarios --> click here to see <--

I do believe that there is a very low probability that any team will be willing to trade up in this draft, but one scenario might pan out: If the draft order goes like 1. Cavs, 2. Knicks, 3. Bulls, .......... 6. Wolves. The wolves might want to trade up to draft Ball in exchange for some or all of #6, #16, and #33 pick. The draft order is important because the Knicks/Bulls might want to draft Ball, but GS/Pistons might like Wiseman better etc.

If that happens, who would you possibly pick at #6, #16, and #33 for the Cavs?

Also, do you think Pokusevski can be a good fit in the NBA?

After Wiseman, there's no-one I really like in that range. That's why I wouldn't trade down.

I haven't paid much attention to Pokusevski, but he's listed at 7' 205 pounds. That's pretty skinny for a guy his size. I'm gonna have to watch some tape on him. In his range, Achiuwa interests me more.

I'm hoping we keep trade scenarios in the separate thread specifically for trade scenarios. Please direct the conversation there. Many posters don't like fantasy trades leaking all over the other discussions.

Agreed, I find these trade scenerios as useless as a condom with a whole in it...they never come to fruition so there is zero point in discussing them.

This could be reaching a bit and would actually need to take place after the draft due to extensions:

Nets Get:
Love
Garland

Cavs Get:
LaVert
Prince
Claxton

Cavs probably need to kick in a pick(s). Wouldn't be surprised if they asked for the Milwaukee pick, or a protected 2021from the Cavs.

The Nets are going to be an interesting team to this offseason with the signing of Nash. They have some personnel decisions to make, and if I'm the Cavs, I'd at least be kicking the tires on Caris LaVert.

Yes, they just signed him to an extension last year and he had a good year, but his role is going to be minimized significantly with Kyrie and KD coming back. Joe Harris is a free agent and would be a much better fit at SG with Kyrie and KD. They'd still have Dinwiddie off the bench, too.

Don't know if they'd go for it, but if they're going to be running a Dantonio style system I could see a guy like Love being a tremendous fit for them. I'm sure KD winds up playing quite a bit at PF, but a Kyrie, Harris, KD, Love, Allen lineup would certainly be fun on offense. They would be a pretty dominant rebounding team as well given the frontcourt lineup. Small-ball you push Love to center and Dinwiddie at SG. Garland gives them a young guard for Nash to develop.

I don't necessarily think they'd be quick to trade LaVert and Prince, but for fantasy purposes, it's about the only way to make the money work.

Anyway, without counting draft picks, Cavs look something like this:

PG: Sexton
SG: LaVert, Porter, Windler
SF: Prince, Cedi
PF: Nance
C: Drummond

The defensive potential of that roster. Very flexible, and if he pans out, someone like Toppin could be a great fit on that team.

The Nets are too smart to fall for a trade this bad. No offense to you at all. I think Sean marks has a good read on his roster. They can find a shooting big cheaper than Kevin Love.

What about something like this?

Cavs Get:
LaVert
Prince
Claxton
2020 #19

Nets Get:
Love
Garland
2020 #5

Cavs get two young guys that fit great with Sexton and just signed readable long term deals. Nets get the 3rd star, young PG, and pick they can flip or use to add to the team. Probably a bit more fair.

I think it’s also possible they explore trading Dinwiddie if they are resigning Harris. I actually think he’d be a pretty great guy to play next to Collin.

There's no motivation for the nets to do this. There's no real need for Kevin Love and his contract. they can find a big who can stretch the floor plus KD is coming back. The have Kyrie and Dinwiddie so there's really no need for Garland.

Why are we giving up the best player and the best pick in this trade?

Hell no.

cavs are moving from 5th to 10th interesting B/R have players 10-14 to choose from-Hayes, Willams, Bey, Smith, Achiuwa. Also getting younger with Randle and an experienced SF in Oubre. Love is often hurt and carries a big salary. think NY would be taking a big gamble on him. Oh well just for fun..

I was thinking about how to fix the back court being so small. I have been watching tape on Haliburton and he is close to being a complete player, has the size, but could use a guy who can break the defense like Sexton. He has the best IQ in the draft IMO. He's more athletic than given credit for and more importantly uses his length effectively.

I think we should trade Garland and Exum to the Suns for Oubre and their pick. I would give them the bucks pick or 2nd rounders if they held out for it. Now you have your wing, large PG to pair with Sexton, and you can still make another pick at 10. Garland can grow behind Rubio and can be subbed for him when they need more shooting.

On our team Haliburton plays the Delly role with better shooting and athleticism. He has that same anticipation Delly has on defense because of his IQ, but with a body to really do it. He needs to get stronger, but his length is very functional.

One of the few positive lineups we had last year was - Garland + Delly. That is the blueprint for this team to be successful.

I normally don't put too much thought in fantasy trades... but I haven't seen a real Cavs game in six months and I don't think I'm going to see another one for quite some time.

I'm not too high on this one. Might be because it gives up on Garland too soon for my liking, but there isn't a high ceiling on the trade either. After five years of Kelly Oubre, we know what he is. He's a low end starter at small forward. I also believe Haliburton isn't a high ceiling player for a 5th pick overall. He is going to be a solid role player, but he has a slow shooting release and isn't twitchy. Again, we agree there's a lot of Delly in his game, but I don't know if 5th overall is going to justify a less streaky Delly.

I just posted this in another thread, but how is Haliburton worse than Garland in any way? Shoots better, rebounds better, big enough to pair with Sexton, defends better, has the intangibles, has the numbers.

My comparison to Delly wasn't meant to say Haliburton is him, more like what if you put Delly in an NBA body with a 7 foot wingspan that can shoot? You have to admit that is a good player has upside.

I don't get how Garland can possibly be as good a prospect as Haliburton. His knock is that he doesn't get to the basket. Darius doesn't do that, and finishes worse when he does. He definitely isn't a 2 way player like Haliburton, and he averaged 2.6 assists. Haliburton averages 6.6.

I don't understand people saying Haliburton is a seconday playmaker, but Darius is our lead guard?
