Cavs summer league team

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Clarkson better watch out we could always bring Calderon back.

I'd rather find a vet that just got left out of free agency, possibly Michael Carter-Williams. Or go and find a undrafted rookie or someone who has been playing in Europe to come in. Aaron Craft has been shooting 40% from 3 in Europe over the last 3 years. He might be more suited to be our 3rd PG but I bet he can run an offense better than Clarkson.

I hope the Cavs learn from last summer to not handcuff themselves by giving someone like Calderon a guaranteed contract. I also hope that they use their two way contracts wisely. They should be 16th and 17th player on a NBA roster talent, not two G-leaguers that you want to reward.

I was being sarcastic but Clarkson and Calderon are both light years better then Michael Carter Williams.

I just looked up his stats. Wow, you are right. I didn't realize he is a terrible 3 point shooter. I didn't realize he has regressed every year since his rookie season.

Of the current players on the team, I see Clarkson as a 6.5 SG. He has demonstrated zero PG skill, but showed he can, at times, put the ball in the hoop. 14 pts/game; 80% free shows. Ditch the PG label; set him up to compete with JR. Focus on raising the 3 pt percentage from 35 to 38, and executing team defensive concepts.

Clarkson is one player who could benefit from full training camp and better assigned roles for a team. Perhaps next year, he can play to his regular season production in the POs when it really counts.

Dude just looked overwhelmed to me in these playoffs. Next year he might actually rely on the experience to show up and be a difference maker. Maybe Lue can determine if this is impossible or not.

If Rodney hood is here next season I'd choose between him and cedi. clarkson is too turnover prone to start

Very excited about summer league and finding out if Cedi and Zizic show improvement. Are they ready for consistent roles next season. Also Sexton is going to be pretty exciting to watch. He can get his own shot with ease but how will he play with guys that a actually have talent?

I agree, he can get his own shot whenever he wants but he sure is no pt guard. I’d argue Cefi would be much better suited for the back up pt guard spot. Clarkson and Hood definitely are talented but can the coaches put them in positions to succeed.

I think that is definitely the case with Clarkson. Head coaches usually take a backseat in summer league so it should give Lue a chance to try to coach Clarkson up and pick his brain.

I think Lue needs to know if Clarkson is worth keeping or if we have to go sign someone else to be our backup PG.
I think Clarkson is miscast as a PG. I'm interested to see if he can be coached up to play off the ball at the 2. He has the talent to do that. I think he'd be more effective if he can be less ball dominant. Can he get there? That may be what Lue is trying to figure out.

If Clarkson is going to work with Lue in Vegas, I take that as a positive. It would be purely voluntary. He can't play in Summer League and there is nothing that obligates him to be there and do anything with the team. But if the report is true that Lue will be there and Clarkson will be working with him, it means Clarkson is agreeing to do so and may even know the agenda. If Clarkson goes, it shows a willingness on his part to work. That's a positive.

Clarkson averaged just 1.1 turnover per game with Cleveland while playing 22.6 MPG. The problem comes from the idea of him as a PG - he just averaged 1.7 per game. He was over 3 in LA. Far from great.

I suspect the Cavs want him to play off the ball more. Unless they trade Hill, they are set at PG this year with Sexton and Hill. Maybe they get another emergency PG like Calderon again, but that means PT for Clarkson at PG won't be there.

They've already spoken about Hood, so I assume they hope to have him back. I think they will try to move Smith. They will also want to see where Cedi is, see where Zizic is, and see if there's anything from the guys they invite to the Summer League.

C - TT, Nance, Zizic
PF - Love
SF - LeBron, Korver, Cedi
SG - Hood, Clarkson
PG - Hill, Sexton

I think that's where the Cavs HOPE to start if LeBron comes back. They could use another PF, especially one that can stretch. So they could target someone like Ilyasova in FA. Amir Johnson is another name to look at. There are several others.

There's also the big question about another star around LeBron if he stays. I suspect there will be several moves they may try to make. Some of the moves can also make pieces more valuable. If LeBron leaves and Love has inflated stats, his value will increase as we approach the deadline. Clarkson would be more valuable if he can score off the ball and add that to his ability to slash. They probably see Hood as a nice younger piece that still has a chance to be very good if he can put it all together.

I would hope his playoff performances were enough to scare the shit out of him about his game (lack thereof).

Mathias has a shot at being another Delly. He is not the greatest athlete, but he studies his opponents deeply and his dad, a basketball coach, taught him that high level skill can make up for athleticism issues.

He may have been the best perimeter defender in the Big Ten. He meticulously researched his opponents, went over film, and would identify their tendencies so he could recognize them and anticipate what they would do. He's good off the ball and is a hard worker.

I could see him either getting a roster spot and being assigned to the D-League or signing a two-way deal.

Both he and Sexton are guys that put in a ton of work to go from being unknown to be recognized. Mathias went from an unknown to a three star prospect. His dad is a coach. His older brothers played. He has a gym attached to his parents house.

There's definitely something about the work ethic in the young guys coming in. Same goes for BBall IQ.

He is much better than Delly and I don't quite see the similarity tbh.

Mathias is a phenomenal offensive player and an absolute deadly sniper form behind the three point line coming off screens, spotting up, etc. He is more like Korver with better ball handling skills and slightly betterment passing skills. He just never stops moving coming off screens and is quite fast despite his physique.

If the MVP he won at the FIBA U17 Is anything to go by he probably synergizes well with other high IQ players

if he is all this then why didnt he get drafted...

Clarkson's issue is he is guard who cant shoot or pass or defend... and he is the smallest 6'5 person in the world. Swear he is no more than 6'3.
