Cavs Trade Joe Harris to Orlando

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Kinda forgot about Harris..salary dump..I do expect the GM to be looking for something around the trade deadline.
Maybe another asset.

Cavs Saved 3.3 million in taxes getting rid of a guy who couldn't even dress... I have a feeling Gilbert calls this trade a win..

Salary dump. I don't think another trade is going to happen. Pretty sure they've been trying to trade Harris for a while.
Yeah this doesn't mean anything else is pending. This is fallout from Cunningham winning a roster spot and the tax bill

Pretty sure the 2017 pick(from Scaramento) we sent out was also top 55 protected.

In other words, neither of these picks will be actually gained/used by the Magic or Cavs. They were just mechanisms for the accounting of the trade.
I'm curious how that "accounting" works. I thought the only thing that mattered when making trades is that dollar values roughly matched? I always assumed that since picks themselves have no dollar value associated with them, there's no restriction as to how they can be used in a trade. (Besides the Stepien rule for 1st rounders)

Sounds like a salary dump to me.
But an important one. if they couldn't find a taker for Harris and they were able to find a good deal for the TPE or wanted to add a bought out player later in the year, they would have had to simply cut Harris, still pay his salary, and still pay the associated luxury taxes from his guaranteed deal.

So this deal was one part salary/luxury tax dump and one part roster management/flexibility

Good move for the Cavs. Makes sense. Still....with that being said..... In 2018-2019,he'll be shooting 43% from 3 in San Antonio playing 22 MPG. God damnit.

The Larry Coon CBA FAQ is always a good place to start. Regardless, neither pick is likely to ever even reach the Cavs or Magic.

Let's have Joe Vardon ask Coach Blatt :chuckle:

I believe we didn't have to give them a pick, but they did have to give us something. They probably just wanted a pick back from us.

3 Mil is pennies to Gilbert. This is set up for another move.

I am with this as one poster said it helps Gilbert now and creates a spot for a player or move is one makes its self available. To get rid of Harris and save while doing it is a win alone for Gilbert no matter how he values his Billions or whatever.

Probably just a salary dump at this point, as it saves Gilbert $3m.
it also gives us flexibility to pick someone up with the trade exceptions...

I think we need to be worried about the center position at this point (35 games in), burying our heads in the sand and saying that Mozgov is "just fine" and "he'll turn it around", blaming the knee surgery or saying he just "lacks confidence right now" is not good strategy, we need to be prepared to make a move if Mozgov continues to play like crap, because were sure as hell not winning a championship with Tristan Thompson starting at center.
