Cavs Trade Joe Harris to Orlando

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like the cavs having a roster spot, who knows what vet is going to turn up at the deadline for buyouts

Sounds like everybody makes money on this deal. The Cavs never intended to have 15-men on the roster. Whether we use it in a deal with the TPE or pick up a min salary bought out player will ultimately depend on what becomes available .vs. our needs.

The Larry Coon CBA FAQ is always a good place to start. Regardless, neither pick is likely to ever even reach the Cavs or Magic.
I've read it multiple times. Can you point me to the section about draft pick value in trades?

I call it a player dump
-Open roster spot
-Harris role on team replaced by Cunningham
- 3 million outgoing salary.
- avoid having to cut Harris.
- additional TPE in the event of injuries.

A "salary dump" the way some people are using it implies that he was a viable member who was dumped just to save a few bucks

The Move had multiple benefits and the guy wasn't gonna get any time on the court.

Also...if both picks are top-55 protected, then aren't we virtually guaranteed to send the 2017 pick out, because we have a top 5 record? So it doesn't fall in the protection.

Similarly, unless Portland becomes a top 5 team by 2020, we have no chance of seeing that pick.
It's scaremento's pick. They'll never be top 5

Eh, hard to say. I mean, it puts us in a position to pounce with the TPE or later in the buyout market. But the roster is already pretty full and talented an the TPE can also be used around the draft and into FA. So I don't think that it's a given that we use the TPE.

Although, if we do anything less than 3-1 on this roadtrip, I'd expect the board to insist that we have to use the TPE and that if we don't we're conceding the championship.

In the NBA today, you have the all time best record, and a Separate all time best point differential.

I don't feel like our team is an all time best anything as is. I wouldn't say conceding a ship, but it sure does feel like we're just gambling on low odds

I'll always remember that one game where he.......

Well I guess he always had a great mustache come November.

The issue is we are banking on having an all-time best player in Lebron. Unfortunately it is looking like that won't be enough. As it stands right now, I think we beat Warriors in finals, but Spurs would crush us. With that said, hopefully we kill this road trip and that concern is assuaged.

If we can add a guy who makes sense and can legitimately help us in ways that aren't already done on the roster, than I am all for it and hope Gilbert authorizes Griffin to do it.

But I don't want to just stack another guy on the roster just for the sake of it(ie Kendrick Perkins last year)

I also want to see what type of stride we hit once Kyrie has been involved for 15-20 games and the new rotations have settled.

I absolutely believe the roster we have today can beat the Warriors or Spurs.

if we can do something that ups the odds in our favor, I hope we do.

There are literally maybe 3-5 teams in the league that matter(have any shot at all at reaching or winning the Finals)

What the Spurs, Warriors or us for that matter have done against the other 25-27 teams counts but does not give me any basis to fear either team.

I can not see any evidence or basis to suggest that "the Spurs WOULD crush us" Regardless of how this 4 game road trip against 4 separate teams plays out

So who are some guys that could possibly get bought out? Joe johnson, Roy Hibbert?
Maybe Jeff Green? Though I'd think he's more of a tradable asset.

The roster spot is going to be filled at some point by a rim protector. Have no idea who. Is a Roy Hibbert buyout from the Lakers at all likely?
