I don't know if I can stomach another Sunday with Sendejo starting.

Redwine didn’t look bad against Indy but Rape-o-5000 is better than Rivers.Going to be interesting to see if the staff is trying to bring him along as he wasn’t much to diagnose and attack in college but had the athleticism to do so if the cognitive side of things ever developed. Not betting on him but interesting to monitor for now.

I think there is a solidly decent chance that Bell doesn't leave the division.

I'm never going to hold it against any NFL player who hold out to get their money. Every team in the league has guys who are in contract disputes so it's not fair to pin that on a specific player.

Not all contract disputes are the same, though. I'm a lot more sympathetic to a guy making $750k who just had an All-Pro season than a guy holding out from a Super Bowl contender because he wants $15M rather than $17M. At some point, you have to ask yourself how much winning actually matters to a guy.

From the looks of it there wasn't any problems between him and the Jets. They mutually agreed to move on and on good terms.

He's still a good back. Why would the Jets have wanted to move on, and why would Bell want to stop getting a paycheck for however long and move on? Just because we don't know the details doesn't mean the circumstances don't point to problems behind the scenes.

He'll sign with a playoff team this year and get his $6M so in the end he'll be alright.

So he's going to make even less? That's the concern with Bell. Nothing wrong with wanting more money, but Bell is making irrational decisions that result in him making less money. So how do you plan for a guy who makes irrational decisions regarding when/whether he will play?

Glad the Browns will stay very far away from him.

You gotta go back and look at the numbers on the contract PIT was offering him. It was all about the guaranteed money. PIT never offered more than $20M in guaranteed money which was a low ball offer. Bell wanted more guaranteed money and PIT didn't want to give him that. The Jets did. Also PIT is notorious for being stingy negotiating contracts.

Why would they want to move on? Adam Gase. He has a track record of running off the best players on his teams. Also the team has only had positive things to say about Bell. I don't think there was any rift. Again with the money you gotta look at his contract. The Jets owe Bell $6M for the remainder of this season guaranteed. Depending on what his new team gives him The Jets are on the hook for the remainder of that up to $6M. The Jets are losing and were probably not going to keep him on the roster at the start of the next league year so a trade or release is always logical in that situation.

Long-time lurker here, but I had a question about how contracts can be structured. Reportedly, the Browns had a deal in place to essentially buy a 2nd rounder from the Saints for $5mil before the league nixed it. They were going to sign Clowney to a 1 year $15mil deal, $5mil of which would be a signing bonus, and immediately trade him to the Saints, who would then only be on the hook for $10mil.

Now I'm not sure how much Le'Veon would command on the open market given all the questions surrounding him, but can the Browns structure a midseason signing where they do something similar? The trade deadline is Nov. 3, so we could get three games out of him to help reduce Kareem's workload while Nick is still out. By then, our extremely RB-friendly scheme could significantly up his value enough to hopefully get halfway decent compensation, whether it be a mid-round pick or a player that can immediately help our back seven on defense. And while he's a couple years removed from playing in Pittsburgh, it can't hurt to pick his brain to get whatever edge we can on the Steelers.

From his perspective, he'd be in line for significant work right away, get a great opportunity to pad his stats, and pocket more cash than he would get elsewhere on the open market (not sure if he had an offset clause in his contract with the Jets). So long as he doesn't come in and nuke our locker room, it seems like a win-win to me.

Obviously its a circumvent of the spirit of the rules as yes, you could do a basketball "sign and trade" and take on the bonus money. But why wouldn't the league nix the deal again?

They've been trying to trade him since last year. They immediately regretted signing him. I think that would be obvious. But anyway, thanks for ruining my pleasant morning surprise.

Have a good day drooling over 2017 Le'Veon Bell, Hot Take.

When did I say The Browns should sign Le'Veon Bell? The only thing I did was explain his contract situation. You should probably stop obsessing over me. It's not healthy.

He's an edge. Has only ever played OLB in a 3-4 scheme.

Don't think he's a great fit.

Could he be a rotational pass rusher in our scheme? Our depth is pretty shot with Vernon, Clayborne, and others being injured. At this point, I’m interested in just about any viable DL that can provide depth. Our guys have been completely gassed by the 4th of the last few games and it’s had a role in letting teams get back in games. I don’t want to add a ton of patch work players, but if we can add one or two guys for depth/situational purposes I’d be all for it at the right price.
