Cleveland Development Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Sorry to hear about that, I know that can be pretty unnerving. There is a West bank and an east bank of the Flats- where you by the West bank near the projects? By the new development on the east bank? By the titty bars?
That's what I was wondering since he booked it to W 25th. Would make sense if it was the West Bank

West Bank is still a dump between the projects and strip clubs. Given the amount of side streets it wouldn't be too difficult to pick off a victim. I would never go over there without a car neaby. Period.

I played dodgeball and volleyball at Mulberry's. Always was so sketchy from the highway exit to Mulberry's.. Sorry to hear. It's a complete joke that those projects were built in that prime location.

Dump maybe harsh on my part. I have had issues in the past as well and it irritates me that people are trying to take advantage of what should be a nice & safe area of town. Not sure when those projects were built but it brings down the overall appeal of West 25th/West Bank. The people who held @I.K.W.T at gun point are the same thugs who would raise hell on West 6th and gave it a bad name. Move this trash as far away from downtown as possible. Thats prime real estate going to waste.

With the huge investment that's been made in that area, beefed up security and police presence is necessary on rotation. At least a few patrolling officers need to be on duty at all times.

I don't frequent, but there probably is beefed up security as there is at every entertainment district. I think if you stay on the north end where everything has been redeveloped and everybody is, you will be fine. Go south towards the Odeon/rapid station stop and you could run into some trouble. Obviously we are talking about the East Flats here. It seems like IKWT was on the west side which is a whole other animal.

Oh, fully agree, and I've certainly noticed the presence on the East Bank which is alive and thriving. Love the area, it's a blast.

West Bank - though it has experienced some notable improvements over the years (Windows, Aquarium, Music Box, Shooters still doing well, Stonebridge apartments and condos) - has a long way to go. I know removing those housing projects could be an uphill battle but it's worth fighting for.

Re-section that housing elsewhere. Could take years but it could be critical to the West Bank's success.

Announce a multi-year phase out plan, offer monetary incentives to its residents for relocation, then demolish those fuckers and use the real estate for something upscale.

This is prime real estate and it's time to utilize it.

Back around 2006 they got Fed funding to demolish possibly the worst projects in the city, in Tremont - what's now called Tremont Pointe. It still gets a bad rep in the neighborhood - but I live right next door to it, and it's a fine mixed-income development (certain % must be Section 8). A lot of families, immigrants, and 20-30 somethings. Works well because management keeps the place pristine, and has low tolerance for nuisance and complaints. It's probably one of the better ways to deal with the 'projects' of old that shoved a bunch of poor folks in substandard, multi-family housing. Give people quality housing, a sense of community, and accountability goes a long way to fix bad parts of town without creating animosity. Those projects by the Shoreway exit seem ripe for something along these lines. They're already planning on tearing some of those low-rise housing by 25th and Franklin down, not sure what's going there, though. Lofts/apartment/condos going in across the street by the McNulty's group.

West Bank is going to have a tougher time bouncing back regardless - most $$$ going into the East Bank, and the primary tax base there are strip clubs, very little housing. More solid businesses are starting up on Columbus Rd. by the bridge - Merwin's Wharf, Brick & Barrel Brewery, etc. - needs to continue to slither over, but it's a lot of old warehouse space. It'd be awesome if they just tore some of those ugly brick warehouses down and made more green space to complement the river.

It was the west bank directly in front of Stonebridge Apartments. My friend lived right there in new condos they built. We should have just taken an Uber. It was 5X surge pay.

Also, 911 never picked up after 5 times. Luckily we flagged down a squad car.

Still shaken up, but everything taken was replaceable. So that's a positive.

People fucking suck. Sorry man.

I carry a knife with me at all times and can pretty much defend myself, but a whole different story when you are robbed at gunpoint. Everything can be replaced, but just the hassle of blocking all cards, thinking of everything you had in your wallet. Process of getting a new phone, etc..

Hopefully they got hit by a bus later that night or did something stupid to get caught. Karma is a bitch and sooner or later it will bite them in the ass.

Keep your head up!

Thank you kind sir! It also helps that i may have gotten their license plate...

So apparently East Cleveland voted to be annexed into Cleveland, so we will see how the city council votes on it. I personally hope they go for it. I don't see how progress gets made there leaving them on their own and the increase in population can bring more funding to the city. As some have written, the problem is Cleveland's anyway, they might as well have a say in how to handle it.

The county could use some consolidation anyway.

I understand the cons of bringing more poverty/low value homes into the mix, but it's not as if those issues don't exist just because of the lines on a map.

I don't very informed on how population/funding correlate. I'd imagine there isn't any, if so, only marginal difference between the funding East Cleveland currently gets/the increase Cleveland will get. They're bankrupt, so I'd imagine whatever they get isn't enough. Personally, I think East Cleveland is a lost cause and I wouldn't want any part of it. But I'll also admit I'm not the most informed on all of the details.

This is big for East Cleveland, which couldn't even afford to fill potholes. They have an ambulance on blocks next to one of their fire stations. Becoming a part of Cleveland enables them to have their city services absorbed by Cleveland and thus reduce costs.

It also means the death of their traffic cam operation that made Euclid Ave useless as a thoroughfare. Maybe the city will streamline Euclid so it is not only driveable but people start to go through there again.

Why is East Cleveland seperated from the city? I never understood it. Outside of the people who live in that area, I would have to imagine most people associate that area with Cleveland as a whole.

Im not for the move, but it may as well be done. Its like looking at your neighbor with 3 foot high grass. Its making your street look bad, someone needs to cut it.
