Cleveland Guardians Offseason Discussion 2021-22

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
3. Everybody love everybody. We all want the same thing, a World Series win. Only thing we disagree on is how to get there.

This cant be reiterated enough. Its fun to joke here, disagree on how to get there....but at the end of the day, we are all brothers who beloved team, the Indians/Guardians last won a World Series before any of us can remember.

Just remember folks, we are all in this abusive domestic violence relationship together, its not just you with the black eye, we all have the black eye together, lol

What’s the breaking pitch? It’s gnarly.

I hate the angle in the video because my untrained eye has a hard time seeing the difference, but i would love if someone would breakdown this kids tool bag at this point. (Gavin Williams)

The slider is a plus plus out pitch for him, he's also got a change up and a very seldom used curve at the moment.

The back door two-seamer he drops in for the backwards K was sick, also.

Commands it up and down, only going to get better.

An ace in the making with this development system, IMO.

How fast is he, age? Will he get faster in your opinion?

You can go to iMovie from Driveline to show you how to do a two, three, four and five pitch overlay of any pitcher's stuff, provided you have a clip of each pitch. Use the opacity feature for each subsequent overlay so that you can see the ball as it moves from a uniform starting point (usually the release point for any pitcher) to see what their pitch does.. Pretty amazing stuff.. tbh..

Excerpt from Jeff Passat’s ESPN story today:

  • Daniel Espino, RHP, Cleveland: Scouts who witnessed a recent Espino start on the Guardians' backfields came away talking about it like it was a religious experience. Fastball 99-101, slider 92-94, filthy 12-to-6 curveball, the makings of a changeup, excellent control, flexibility -- the whole kit and caboodle. It is certainly ungodly stuff, and one source familiar with Espino said it tracked with what he's done all spring. If it's not anomalous, it's the sort of thing you see from the best pitching prospect in baseball. Espino struck out 152 in 91.2 innings between both Class A levels last year, and at 21 this season, he could find himself knocking on Cleveland's doorstep less than three years after he went with the 24th overall pick.

He'll turn 23 this season, but Cleveland's MO is to make sure these guys get an ample number of innings in at each level in the interest of protecting service time and making sure they're maximizing time in the big leagues.

Biggest separators for him will be control and command of the fastball, and the development of the third pitch in his changeup that is running low 90s right now.

You know he's going to miss bats, you know he's going to produce the numbers you want from a metrics/arsenal perspective. He's elite in this regard.

Its all about refinement and approach to learn how to get hitters out as he advances. Command will be the biggest hurdle to cross, but he's too talented not to move quickly IMO.

I am sure every team salivates at the thought/belief of having the best starting pitchers in the league on their rosters...

Call me a homer.... I think we actually have the goods..

Espino and Williams have a shot at being the #1 and #2 starting pitchers in all MLB and it wouldn't surprise me if one or 2 other SPs in the rotation are top 5-10 worthy as well...

2023 way too early and speculative rotation

Espino
Williams
Bieber
Quantrill
Allen Jr/Tmac/Civale...

Amazing.

Amazing.
The future looks bright.. bright indeed.. and you're not including names like Hankins, Vargas, Gaddis, Morris and others..

That 2 seamer seems heavy, too. Should be a decent ground ball pitcher, even if it does get hit.

He's got stuff, for sure. That slider really breaks HARD at the plate, eh?

For all we know he meant that to be DM to someone who told him a joke.

Or maybe the joke was just the Guardians offer?
He's known to be extremely online and occasionally abrasive (remember when he tweeted that Jason Kipnis should be traded after the 2017 season?), so I doubt that this was accidental or unrelated to current negotiations with his biggest client.

Let's be realistic. If JRam wants the money his agent will be asking the Yankees and Dodgers to pay him around Christmas 2023, he is gone. And if a hometown deal is an 8 year extension at $32 million a year instead of a 10 year deal at that AAV he is gone.
