He was a casualty of our roster crunch. What happened to Mejia? I thought he was supposed to be one of our better prospects?

But, at what point did he stop being a promising prospect? He was a casualty of our roster crunch.
It really is... but SSS based on this tweet for those keeping score at home.
I had always held an affinity for Asian/non-traditional MLBers and don't expect the Guardians to be in on this guy... However, in recent years with the exception on Ohtani, these guys tend to sign for less than their initial projections...
If for some reason this happens, the Guardians seem like a reasonable suitor for his services, though we never play here.
If it comes down to an average of less than 10 mil a season - think 5 years at 7 mil a year... We should consider it... It either pays off quick or turns into a sunk cost.. Lot's of boom or bust, but I think around 7-8 mil a year to see what you can do for the next 5 years..... Tough call....
At the point where we had more promising prospects than we could cram onto a 40 man roster, but we didn't trade any of them. But, at what point did he stop being a promising prospect?
Oh come now.... lolThink you got the wrong Mejia.
Oh come now.... lol
Francisco was a legit prospect...
Jean Carlos battled.... Went from a DSL closer type (are these guys ever real prospects) to turn that performance into a quality starting performance in LC when Aiken and other were injured/not able to perform...
JC Mejia is a definite ML pitcher fot the next couple years.... Does he perform or rebury..... IDK... But with the 4th option year awarded, no service contract issues to be concerned with.... It was a no-brainer someone was going to kick his tires.... With the option, he clearly gets another run at ML success, and he is in a good spot to make do. Will he? I'll guess yes.
Ah. I see. Yes, perhaps I had the wrong Mejia.Yeah, not what I was saying.
I think Kilgore thinks we are talking about dumping Francisco Mejia for a bag of balls, who was "one of our better prospects" to steal his verbiage.
JC Mejia was never really that promising.
However, in his defense, that COVID season really hurt his chances of making it in Cleveland.
He should have spent 2020 pitching in Akron. They would have gotten a better idea of whether to develop him in the pen or in the rotation, and he would have gained valuable experience (he only had about 275 professional IP before this year).
Instead, he missed out on that year and essentially went straight from being a mediocre starter in A+ to being in the majors.

The last time Mejia excelled was as a reliever for the Mahoning Valley ScrappersDisagree here.
He was a late bloomer type that really excelled in his opportunity to do so, but then he got injured. Always proclaimed to possess a MLB worthy slider, coupled with a sinker with potential...
Is he a loss based on our current roster? No. But he certainly has the tools to play major league baseball for the next several years, if he puts it together.
It was his EXCELLENCE as a RP that thrusted him into a starting roll when Aiken and others were injured/couldn't perform. He should have a 50/50 chance of being a ML pitcher at this point, especially with another option...The last time Mejia excelled was as a reliever for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers
I can't remember Cleveland adding any supposed to be "plug and play" foreign league free agent--Cuban, Japanese, Korean, etc. Yandy Diaz did eventually pay dividends but he was cheap and years away when signed.
Ah. I see. Yes, perhaps I had the wrong Mejia.
