Number one lakers set there defense to stop Collin not to stop garland they are both young and with time and better players around them we will have a good team stop complaining about Collin you all remember picking on KYRIE about assists enjoy the ride and they are 19 and 21 and still learning

My
I mean he had one of his worst games of the year 16 pts 4 assists. Lots of 2nd year guys would love to get that statline in a good game
My gripes with him is more about his approach to the game... Feel he is more about getting his points rather than playing the right way and look to get his teamates involved... You can only get away with that if you are a generational talent like AI, otherwise it just poisons a team, you can already some sign teamates not enjoyong playing witn him. Compare that to the reactions of his teamates when Garland had a nice game against the Nuggets, they looked sincerely happy for him...

People just love hating on Sexton. He was drafted as a combo or undersized shooting guard. Was it ever expected that he would be the lead guard?
Most of you that hate Sexton love SGA but for as much as he handles the ball he only averages 2.9 ast. Sexton's career is off to a fantastic start and he'll continue to get better.

The Lakers are also one of the few teams that don't rely on their guards to hold down a good portion of the scoring load. That paired with the on ball defenders that can keep up with Sexton, they could plan to take him out of the game with no negative effects to their team. I don't think many other teams could do that. I'm prepared for the clippers to do the same thing because they are built similarly but I don't expect it to become anywhere close to the norm with other NBA teams.

The hate against Sexton is crazy. The Lakers actually scouted him..... Even if he doesn’t become the pg of your dreams (we do have Garland), maybe we have Lou Williams on our hands. GEEZ.

I don't think they scouted him at all to TBH. The Lakers just have a bunch of good defensive guards: they're a defense first team. They were more worried, rightfully, about Love with AD out.

He just doesn't make his teammates better,,doesn't really try to involve anyone else. I don't know if its selfishness or just the attitude that he feels he can get it done himself. He is going to need to be moved to the 6th man role at some point, which would be a great role for him.

I am a Sexton fan but I would concede, his future might be as a guy coming in off the bench and just attacking. That being stated, I've seen some growth out of him in terms of basketball plays. I think he does frustrate his teammates with his blinders at times but they know the kid cares. He's a tireless worker and I just think he's so damn aggressive he loses focus on making the right basketball play because to some level, he thinks what he's doing is the right play.

He's learning and getting better but some things just aren't instinctive for him. I think next year is what will define what he can be regarding our franchise. Stats wise though, he's been more than fine but stats can lie like a mamajama.

This is it to me. You have to cut him some slack for not adjusting perfectly when they bring in a guy with a higher pick in his 2nd year that plays his position and he is on his 3rd head coach.

If he is still not responding the rest of this year and next, that is a fatal flaw. He is not making the decisions the coach wants, which is why the ball has been taken out of his hands. Garland is making clearly better decisions and is working within the flow of the offense. The question is what level of consequence will Collin respond to. Is taking the ball out of his hands and his teammates making sure Garland brings up the ball enough for self-reflection, or will being benched do it, or will being traded do it.

Even as sixth man he needs to get people involved and play within the team concept. IF he continues to ignore it or play that way only sporadically, he won't even reach his scoring potential.

Right now. I am not sure anyone but lbj could make these players “better”
People act like he is surrounded by 8 all stars

Kyrie averaged over 5 assists as a rookie, I for one was not complaining about his passing. Think it was more the media once LeBron arrived and the fact there were point guards like CP3, Rondo and Wall who's main skill was passing which shifted with the likes of Curry, Lillard and Kyrie.

we dont have Lou Williams, we may have a poor mans Dennis Schroder though

Poor mans Schroder? Schroder for his career averages 13.8 pts 43% 2.8 rb 4.8 ast. What does a poor mans Schroder look like? 10 pts 41% 1.8 reb 3 ast?

I guess Sexton could really fall off the map and not improve at all on the season he's having 18.8 pts 45.4% 3.1 reb 2.2 ast
Schroder has never shot better than 45.1% until this year 46.4%.

Using career averages when Schröder was a back up on playoff team early in his career... Schröder is a solid 6th man now who failed as a starter that we’d absolutely take from Sexton at this point.
I say poor mans Schröder because he will likely never be as good as Dennis at passing or defending and therefore just be a small bench scorer.

If you’re honestly expecting Sexton to develop into Lou Williams who’s closer to an all star than a regular bench player then you are gonna be very disappointed

Are you comparing him to 21 year old Lou Williams in his 3rd season or 33 year old Lou Williams in his 15th season? If it's the former then their stats look like this:

Lou Williams: 17.8/4.9/2.4 per 36 minutes with shooting splits 42.4 FG%/35.9 3PT% w/ 24.3 USG%, 22.6 AST%, 46.1 eFG% , 52.3 TS%
Collin Sexton: 21.5/2.6/3.6 per 36 minutes with shooting splits 45.4 FG%/32.6 3PT% w/ 26.9 USG%, 12.6 AST%, 48.7 eFG%, 53.1 TS%
