And he's currently on pace to have more shots blocked than assists which is....really an incredible stat for a guard lol.

Not to quibble, but are bref's stats incorrect? They have him at 79 shots blocked and 92 assists on the year.

Which, if true, leads to another interesting stat - he's shooting over 51% on shots that don't get blocked.

No those are the right ones. He is not on pace to be blocked more than he gets assists.

I think it is pretty important to not that he is shooting very well on non-blocked shots. I can't imagine him not getting better at avoiding the blocks. Really the answer is to pass. If did that or was less predicable around the rim, his efficiency would be impressive. People keep talking about how horrible he is when really he is a special scorer that could be amazing if he could just kick it more and clean up the blocks, and bring that 3pt% up.

No it’s not, what’s blinding you is his age and draft status.
I keep hearing this age excuse and that he can fix all the floors in his game becausd he is a hard worker.Well, he hasn’t shown any improvement to date, his shooting is backwards, his passing is backwards, his defense is exactly the same. He’s one of the worst players in the league that gets regular minutes for a second straight season. He played an entire year of college, he’s never missed an NBA game to this point, he’s one of the most experienced 21 year olds you’ll ever find and he still can’t operate a pick and roll.
I bet you’re one of the people that were still wanting to give Dion a few more years.

What does he have to do in order to not be among the worst in the league in your opinion? Pass more? Average more ast? He's had a really good year so far and keeps improving as the year goes on.

My only complaint with Sexton is his vision for the court. I'm OK with the level of scoring and even the defense at this stage. A little change here would work wonders.

Someone did a side by side of the infamous Trent Richardson run with Sexton in a recent game and I just had to LOL.

Clarkson occasionally was good for a pass to the open man so I know he was deliberately Cuban B'ing his way to the basket. Sexton... I just think is naturally tunnel vision in that regard. Can it be un-done? We shall see.

The amount of hate people has for Sexton is ridiculous. He's been our best player for two years in a row yet people will nitpick to make their point. He could average 25 points the next 6 games but people will find something to complain about. Not,only will people nitpick they will ignore other players mistakes.

I've seen Garland have major lapses on defense but you why I rare say anything because he's a rookie.

I've seen Porter turnover the ball but he's a rookie too.

Cedi have nights he barely scores(even, though he's been on fire the last 4 or 5 games)but I understand because he's trying to get other involve.

Kevin Love continues to turnover the ball and disappears in most games but I rarely see anyone say anything about it. I don't understand, how the supposedly leader and best player on team rarely get called out for his play. It was him that just stood there towards the end of Rocket's game when that opponent shot that three-pointer but somehow it got swept under the rug from fans, for the most part. If,Sexton just stood there alot of fans would've killed him for it.

I just don't understand the hate people have for him. Even, last season people were killing him for every single thing despite him being a rookie.

I'm not saying Sexton is perfect because he's not but people need to stop nitpicking for every single thing.

Even,if the Cavs win and Sexton have a good game people don't praise him like do Garland,Porter and everyone else. People just ignore that it was Sexton that scored 8 points in the 4th quarter against the Nuggets but all I saw was everyone praising Garland and Cedi for that win. It's like people just ignore that Sexton was the reason why the Cavs broke out that slump in that game.

I just don't understand why so many fans hate Sexton.

Not making excuses for the poor play of the rest of the team, but maybe one of the reasons other players are struggling is because they have a PG who refuses to pass the ball?

Is he being asked to pass though? I think Beilein has been content with the consistent scoring Sexton has given so he can keep the team in games and not push the team into further drama.

I could see Beilein pushing the issue with Sexton's passing in the second half of the season especially if Love and the other vets are moved at the trade deadline.

Also after looking at the assist numbers and how the guards progressed in the 10 year of Beilein at Michigan, I've temper my expectations that he is going to develop Sexton or any of the guards quickly. Beilein seem to take 2 years to get guys assist numbers up even when he didn't have any better choices.

Somebody should count the number of times Sexton passes the ball in a game. And then they should count the number of times he gets the ball on an inbounds pass or immediately past halfcourt and doesn't pass it. I think the first number would be pretty high and the second number would be single digits.

When Sexton's on the bench, the Cavs' offensive rating goes down to 101.8. That's the lower than when any other Cav is on the bench, and lower than the NBA-worst Warriors (102.7). So I don't think benching Sexton is going to solve the Cavs' offensive woes. It helps to have at least one guy who can put pressure on the defense.

The real issue with Sexton, as always, is that the Cavs' defense is *much* worse with him on the court. He really brings nothing to the table on that end of the court.

Has he actually not improved at all? I can see the effort, but he dies on screens a lot

He constantly gets lost, he ball watches. Players are always telling him he missed his assignment. The improved defense narrative is a fantasy.

He's improved about as much as the Cavs have improved defensively since last year, which is to say, not nearly enough to be competitive most nights. Some of that is probably a result of playing SG, where he's giving up 3-5 inches most nights. But he also just doesn't have much defensive talent. He's not an unpolished diamond defensively like he (maybe) is offensively...he's just a rock.

His biggest issue beyond his height is that he loses focus and doesn’t anticipate the play developing. He ends up doubling on the first swing (wrong assignment) instead of staying home and helping the helper. It’s like a football player losing contain on the edge. Our weird roster construction has him guarding players he has no business guarding too. Guys like Jimmy Butler and Tatum just smile when they see Sexton or TT/Love guarding them.

What you say about his defense is 100% fair but let's not act like Garland,Love, Exum and a few others are playing great defense too.

It's the coach's fault that him and Garland get stuck defending taller guards. There been plenty of times that Garland has a very hard time defending taller guards but people barely say anything about it.

sure he passes, but he rarely makes the “right” pass. Most of the time he gets the ball its dribble dribble iso, he doesn’t understand how to find mismatches, don’t think he’s thrown a single oop pass this year, doesn’t kick the ball out even with 3 defenders around him and just doesn’t read the game well, he’s talented but personally I find him infuriating to watch. I don’t hate him and I really hope he improves in these aspects but my gut feels he won’t succeed as a starter because he’s too short to be a 2 guard, and doesn’t have the IQ to run the point. Nothing wrong with being a solid 6th man on a really good nba team, he would tear apart second units.

Also to your point that our offence is worse with him on the bench, I mean when Exum and Delly are your back ups, I sure as hell hope the team scores more with you starting.
