Turns out Trump overpromised on Chloroquine, not approved for COVID-19, but FDA will start testing. NIH also running a test.

Found this interesting! For anyone that would like to revisit biology class lol

The UK is talking about how they need an antibody test for coronavirus. Basically a test to show if someone had the virus, not if they have the virus. It will help to figure out how many people were asymptomatic and how it spread.

I also think an antibody test gives you candidates to study why they were asymptomatic and maybe they have other antibodies that fought off the virus quickly.

Chloroquine is approved for malaria but any drug that is FDA approved can be used off label if a doctor decides to do so. The NIH will do trials on it so doctors can get better data to make the decision to prescribe it or not. They can prescribe it right now even though it's not approved by the FDA for coronavirus.

What can't be done is the drug companies who produce Chloroquine can't go out and promote to doctors and the public that cholorquine is a treatment for coronavirus. Doctors normal get alot of their information about new drugs from pharma reps.

I know roughly zero about the medical profession so I was surprised to learn that Doctors, even w/o FDA approval, can still prescribe the generic brand, I think? Something along those lines.

EDIT: nm inliner just said this lol

I've seen a number of people posting about what "shelter in place" might mean. I'm actually doing it right now, and I don't think it's as bad as some have believed. Here is an article talking about what it looks like in San Francisco:

People are allowed to go out and get exercise. I find myself going out to the backyard every morning to keep my kids busy. I have a neighbor boy come over to shoot Nerf guns with them twice this week for an hour, pay him like a babysitter.

I have gone out for an errand everyday. One day I went to the pharmacy to grab a few medical needs. One day I went to the grocery store, but it was picked over so I headed to a bakery. They let two customers in at a time.

The people who are truly upset are the waiters, the bartenders, the people who are hourly and have seen their hours cut. I do feel for them. My neighbors are nurses and they are working crazy overtime, I feel for them too. Overall it seems like a minor inconvenience for our family with the understanding it is doing a greater good for society.

Basically you are describing what my wife and I are doing now. She's in health care and has to go to hospital some days, but can work from home most days (which may be changing soon is hospitals start getting taxed). Other than that I go to get groceries and we go for walks. So really not that bad.

edit - Should add that we're both salaried so we aren't losing any money, we don't have any kids yet and the lots in our neighborhood are pretty big, so there's a lot of stuff we don't have to worry about that others do.

That’s good to hear!

For those interested in why chloroquine might work: the key here is Zinc. Zinc has shown to block the replication of the coronavirus’s RNA by disabling the RNA polymerase. The problem is we can’t just take Zinc by itself as it will not enter the cell on its own. Chloroquine allows Zinc to enter the cell.

One of the primary treatments in South Korea has been to use Hydroxychloroquine, which is similar. As we know, South Korea’s death rate has been much lower than in the rest of the world: however we don’t know how much of this is because of the treatment or their aggressive testing measures.

Now that is just my dumb wholly unqualified summary of the video below and what I have read, but if you are as terribly unproductive today as I am, I suggest checking it out lol

(Apologies for another video but this is much better than the one I posted before)

Let us NEVER forget how this shitstorm was created:

Was hoping you were linking to the WHO tweet where they said China claimed the virus wasn't transmitted from person to person.. I think it was January 15th.
Good job guys. Solid work.

Yeah, same with me.

Went out yesterday and drove by the beach. Picked up some food from Safeway.

Not as terrible as people say.

Is lockdown really imminent? Every day im told this.
Wondering this as well. Here in Ohio Dewine has been out in front of this but the number continues to increase. This could be because we are not currently locked down or maybe because we are testing more? Where I’m from surprisingly things don’t seem all that different. Lots of food off the shelves at the grocery store but my employer is still sending everyone to work and traffic on the highway seems the same.
