He has some good PG instincts but is killing the offense with his reluctance to shoot. I don't get it at all. I've been noticing some indifference and bad body language on the court too. I get he's still very young and the team has been playing ugly ball. As a PG he has to be better than that though.

Defensively he and Sexton are not going to work. Even Portland despite having a potential HOF'er in Lillard cannot make the diminutive backcourt work enough to get off the mid tier playoff treadmill.

Dave Vanterpool is largely credited with sorting the Lillard/McCullum backcourt out and developing a string of 3rd guards to compliment them (Crabbe, Napier, Trent) before leaving Portland to be next in line in Minny.

I would love to get him if he's available after being passed over just now by Minny.

Would love to have him impact these young guys development specifically Sexland and Okoro.

If this team had a SF that could score our 2 young guards would look much better. Also doesn't help anyone that we have a 6'7 sf playing PF. Is there no big anywhere that could play PF for while Love and Nance are out? No one in the G-league we could try? To me it screams obvious tanking.
DNP-CD.

I don't think Garland looks like a future All-Star or anything, maybe he is destined to be a Jeff Teague caliber player, but the Hawks managed to win 60+ games with Jeff Teague as a starter, so maybe that's not the worst thing in the world.

I just don't understand why so many are completely writing off a kid who just turned 21 and is averaging over 15-5 with good shooting percentages from each level and more than a 2:1 A/T ratio.

I think he has a good chance to be a solid starter in this league.

I have thought and said Garland shouldn't be playing next to Sexton and it really shows.
Right now with Cedi starting and playing ,you aren't going to get a lot of production like is needed.
Garland needs to come off the bench..but a lot of the problems with this unit are going to have be sorted out by Altman.

I don't see the fire. Don't know what else to say.

That's fair. I don't see a lot of fire anywhere on this team though, and it seems too coincidental that we've somehow exclusively acquired fireless guys.

There are (very important) missing pieces that I think will make a few players on this team look much better once they are in place.

EDIT: And no, I'm not talking about injured players. I think we are just flat out missing some integral parts of this team.

I can't explain my dissatisfaction with him. He has put up good numbers and he has good games I guess. He makes some passes that make you think and has a skip to my lou type play every once in awhile.

I'd be happy to have him handle more than Collin and bring it up and initiate more, but he still doesn't seem like he commands attention.

I really wish he was just hoisting 3s or passing.

Garland as of the last game has officially played in 82 career games. He literally has one full season of work.

I'm happy with where he is at right now in his development. He still has a lot to work on but that's ok.

I can: he has to be the guy who makes the pass that makes the bucket. It's why he over dribbles or gets caught up in the lane when he over penetrates with no outlet. That's not winning basketball, and it's why he looks like he's destined to be a mediocre PG.

In some ways the hardest pass in basketball is the swing pass to the weakside of the offense.

This won't be a popular opinion, but I think part of what's holding him back is how ball dominant Sexton is. The times I've seen Darius succeed has been when he's had the ball for consecutive possessions, and dropped like 2-3 assists in a row. Then he starts reading the defense better and calling his own shot confidently. Unfortunately, he can't do this for even one full quarter, only spurts, because of Sexton. I am not saying he is prime Baron Davis waiting to be unlocked, but just pointing out that we aren't doing him any favors in that regard development-wise.

This is the main argument for not drafting 2 lead guards in a row. It takes development time from them both.
