Feels like that starting line-up needs a competent shot creator other than Garland otherwise you're down before the game even starts.

John Collins? Why would Atlanta do that?
Didn't say they would. But since you asked:
1. ATL has a logjam at the SF/PF spot
2. ATL needs a secondary ball-handler to pair with Trae - Sexton can lesson the scoring burden as well
3. Will ATL pay Collins, Hunter and Trae $$$?

I consider that only if Mobley is out of the question.

Collins doesnt compare to Mobley, Mobley will be one of the top 3 picks. If we get pick 4 or later in the lottery, I'd consider it.
If you're bullish on Mobley (I am not), you still have to hope he lands to the Cavs.

A Garland-Okoro-Windler-Mobley-Allen lineup has only one playmaker, only one player who can create his own off the dribble, and won't really require much defending at the three point line. I think what the Pacers did to us after Garland went out showed that we can't survive long without at least two playmakers and two players who can create off the dribble on the floor at the same time. If we're going to send Sexton to the bench I'd recommend not replacing him with Okoro.

I believe Okoro is a better playmaker than he's shown while playing out of position as a 3-D SF who has been 4th at best in the lineup's pecking order

Watch this guy... watch the first play on this tape against Mississippi State.

These are just clips but if you search you can find full-game tapes for his freshman year under Bruce Pearl.

He has been playing out of position this whole season and he's such a smart player on both ends of the floor that he's taken a back seat to fill the gaps/plug the holes in our offense. His offensive game at Auburn reminds me ALOT of Bradley Beal at Gainesville with a little less of a reliable jumper. His defensive game is better than Beal's and I just wish he had the opportunity to show his game on the Tourney level.

If you use the 2k translation for what I'm saying... he's a current 74 with a ceiling of 85-87 as a SF prospect, but he's a current 76 with a 88-92 ceiling as a SG prospect. The minute we move him over to SG/SF instead of SF/SG and bump him up in the pecking order of initiating offense, we'll see more of his playmaking skills, rebounding and scoring ratings unlock.

He's better than he's shown and part of what's holding him back is his own IQ and adjusting his game to compliment Sexland better

I'm going to move this reply to the Okoro thread @daddywags

Let's chop this up over there

A Trae/Sexton pairing would be disastrous from a chemistry standpoint IMO and we already know Trae doesn't have the mental makeup to deal with criticism. Either way, as tantalizing as Garland is, you don't trade a dynamic player like Sexton on a hunch that it may unlock something in Garland.

Why not pay all three? They've been highly productive despite those logjams and Hunter has made a really big jump in year two with increased scoring (12.3 -> 17.2) and FG% (41% -> 51.4%). They've also had the 3rd most game lost to injuries (Hunter has played in 18 of their 36 games) so we haven't even seen them a full strength. I think they can draft a ball handler (top 10 pick) or trade for one.

I'm not opposed to moving Sexton to a Manu type bench role but trading him for Collins is asinine. Collins can't defend a chair and is a bit of a chucker on offense. He's Drew Gooden with 3pt range and worsr passing. I dont think that fits our culture or what we need on offense.

I can't see pairing Trae next to anyone but a spot shooting, long 2. Anyone else who needs the ball in their hands to show what they can do just won't get it enough to matter.

If you trade Collin Sexton for John Collins, the Cavs essentially become last year's Hawks, only with a poor man's Trae Young instead of the original running the show.
Add the fact that you have to pay Collins right away, and unless they get really lucky in the lottery, that team is a perennial 6-8 seed at their peak.

I would be very surprised if Sexton and Trae got along at all..

I really hope some of you are rewarded for your faith in Garland.

I think he's been fairly underwhelming so far, which is still an improvement from last year.

the guy who wants to break up sexton and garland wants to team up sexton with trae young... sheesh... the logic.

doesn't want sexland because of height, yet assumes hawks would be ok with sexton and trae young... the logic dude... the logic...

@Rich and @ryanf on their way to Garland thread looking to put out any Garland optimism:

bushwackers-wwejpg.jpg

Neither of you Jabroni's have acknowledged this scholarly Assist to Value Opportunity thingy that has Darius GODland higher than any other guard in the league on it's x-axis.

I have no idea what that advanced stat means, but I know it's an accurate measurement of what many of us see when he's on the floor making his teammates better.

@Rich we had a breakthrough during that Pacer game on the horrible coaching. I felt we were moving to 2nd base with each other.

Don't do this.

Taking a look at his draft and there are very few players worthy of pick 5. The best performed player after him is either Herro or Pj Washington. I wonder what the reactions would have been on draft night had we taken one of those 2. Unfortunately we really needed a top 2 pick in that draft
