I think Garland is the better player, though I'll never say he's put up better stats.

I think Garland makes the rest of the team better while he's on the floor than Sexton does.

I think Garland requires less specific types of players ("normal sized" sg instead of a "tall pg that can play off ball, too") around him.

If forced to choose between the two, I pick Garland almost every time. In my preferred "realistic" scenario, Garland and Okoro are the starting backcourt guys next year, with Sexton off the bench. Each guy getting about 30 minutes.

I'll add that Sexton just doesn't have the basketball IQ (yet?) to build around. He plays basketball like a chihuahua in heat. Great work ethic and attitude, but no change of pace or ability to downshift. Reminds me of Westbrook in that regard. *IF* he ever got it together, he could have Donovan Mitchell-like impact. Until/unless that happens, I let him carry a second unit as the main ball-handler and scorer.

The NBA is moving further away from tradition positions and sizing. Good teams are uniquely built around their best players. There aren't templates for alot of these teams so it's alot of trial and error. There are very few teams that are traditionally built and have alot of success now. It more about finding those players to compliment your top players best strengths and figuring out how you can exploit opponents with what your team does best in a unique fashion.

Positionless basketball is a thing, But you still need size to win. You cannot give up considerable size in 3+ positions IMO. Garland and Sexton both getting 30+ minutes a game (and Okoro) ensure you’re gonna have a major size problems for a lot of the game.

That's true, I wasn't discounting size. I do think you can run a team off the floor with two small guards but Garland doesn't fit that mold. I was saying that a GM needs to built it's teams off the best talent they have and that would be Sexton. It might be easier to build around Garland and Okoro but that doesn't mean it will be anywhere close to as successful.

It goes back to the strategy of BPA vs fit. I think BPA is a good strategy when starting out but with every addition draft, fit has to come into play. At some point Koby has to say Sexton is at least a future #1 or #2 option that needs pieces that fit around him.

Falls in the category of super small sample size and we of course also had lots of blow outs losses with him playing but......

Definitely missed him tonight, still have yet to be presented with evidence Sexton can run a team. Sexton with a playmaker - dynamic Sexton without a playmaker - painful to watch

Richfield thinks he's the next best PG in the NBA. He'd much rather trade away Sexton and build around sleepy Darius.

This was a really lame attempt at a joke when I specifically said to you I won't ever compare the two of them again.

There is no comparison. Keep me out of those talks.

I think Garlands impact on the floor/team is being shown by the last 6 quarters of basketball without him.

There's no comparison made. Just a shitpost about your affection for Garland.

Garlands effect has more to do with how terrible our coach is than how good Garland actually is.

Maybe someday Mrs Glass will come back.

If youre calling folks out for their takes on Darius Garland, allow me to clearly state mine for the record.

I think Darius Garland can be another in the line of very good Cavaliers point guards. I think he and Jarrett Allen can be a modern version of Price and Daugherty. I think he, with a *real* offseason and a season where Collin Sexton's chihuahua in heat style of play doesn't take the ball out of his hands so much would bear fruit that impresses/surprise many. I think every player on the team looks better with Darius running the offense, and Darius isn't anywhere near *his* peak.

I will stand by this take until he shows me otherwise.

Can't wait to build around Garlands average 30 games missed a season.

Memo to the anti Garland crowd: Sexton is the better individual player, but Garland is the better team player. Garland needs Sexton, similar to Sexton also need Garland since the two have different strengths. Since size is an issue when both play together, you have to play the rest of the with some size. Nance will help and Love should help, now that are back but should be looking for a long term solution.

I think this season it became apparent, that until the Cavs get someone tall that can run the plays (last few words said in a mocking, airquote way), that Sexland is the way until it isn't. Garland has emerged this season as being the only guard on the team that can set up the team for better shots and it shows. Ideally, a Shaun Livingston-type would allow Sexland to be separated against several line ups.

...except he hasn't missed 30 games in his pro career...combined...
Guess I should correct that. The 30% of games he's missed so far in the past 3 years going back to college. He's played 92 games out of 134 in 3 years. A different injury each time. Until he stays healthy for more than a month at a time, he's an injury liability.
