I hope Garland figures out how to properly facilitate the offense. Right now he just dribbles aimlessly, with no real plan or purpose. Then half the time he gets caught in a jump pass with no place to go with the ball. He's putting out lots of passes in really poor positions and locations, and he scares no-one as a scoring threat. No place to go but up.

This team is showing some fire and we're turning out to be a load for smaller teams to handle. I want to see this team keep winning as many games as possible. I'd love to see Garland start to get anywhere close to his potential.

I want Sexton on the floor with Rubio and Garland running the floor when Rubio sits. I see no reason to have DG and Rubio on the floor together.

Properly???? I heard that early last year as well. This is a poor take that will be dead in 20 games. With Mobley, Allen fully integrated. Add in LM, it's a different team. Rubio has had his issues as well. It takes time. The impact on Sexton has been larger even.

Small sample size alert

Offensively, the Cavs are 21 points better per 100 possessions with Darius Garland on the floor.

Next best on the team is Markkanen at 4.4 points better.

Overall, we’re 15.7 points better per 100 possessions with Garland on the floor.

Allen is right there at +15.5, but then there’s a massive drop off to Rubio at +3, Okoro at +2, and Mobley at +1.8. Then, everyone else is in the negatives with Osman bringing up the rear (among rotation players) at -11.4, which is drastically lower than the next man up the list at -3.2.

The starting lineup is 30.2 points per 100 possessions better than their opponents, and it’s been our second most used lineup.

I just finished listening to the most recent Chase Down Podcast episode and they mentioned how good Garland's on/off numbers were, so I was just about to look them up. Thanks for posting this!

LOL So you want to play Galrand 20 minutes and Rubio 28 minutes a game?

Glad you are not our coach, they will overlap on the court in games they are both healthy and there is no reason they cant. Also you need to develop Garland, Rubio at best will be here all year, but most likely is gone at the deadline as I dont think he wants anything long term here. I hope I am wrong, I do think Rubio is great for the team, but if we know he doesnt fit a timeline, obviously Rubio can figure that out too.

This is totally untrue. Dribbles aimlessly with no real plan or purpose? Gets stuck in the air with nowhere to go half the time?

Please.

This is the guy Draymond Green said is his least favorite player to try and guard.

He absolutely does get stuck in the air with no where to go pretty frequently. Seems to have been at least a few times a game.

Not so sure I would put too much stock in what Draymond says because we see the actual evidence on the court every single night.

If he is hoisting and hitting his 3's, yeah he is difficult to guard, because that changes the entire game.

When he's not, defenders routinely give him a moderate amount of space, rendering all his fancy dribbling useless.

I'm sure Green would rather guard Durant or Harden or Trae Young/

That’s precisely what led to my dive into the on/off numbers
Where did you find those numbers? And would you mind breaking down the on/off numbers, at least for Garland, to both ORtg and DRtg? I think on the podcast, they said the offense is around 12 points better per 100 possessions, which would mean that the team is also 3 or 4 points per 100 possessions better on defense with him on the floor.

I always look these numbers here

but Garland on and off ORTG numbers don't make any sense. Especially the OFF numbers, they are abnormally low and don't correlate with the ON numbers of the players that take up the minutes when Garland is off the floor.

ORTG with him on is 122.1
ORTG with him off is 101.1

DRTG with him on is 113.4
DRTG with him off is 108.1

It’s all on basketball reference.
