I don't want the ball in Garland's hands at the end of games when the other team goes on a run.

I don't think that's a good thing to feel about a max contract point guard tbh.

He's worse than he was last year.

The natural progression (due to Mitchell) is on hold…

Darius was learning how to take over games from both a scoring and playmaking aspect… He hasn’t needed to…

He’s the most talented player on the team….

Yes he was horrible tonight but the lack of spacing in the final minutes was non existent, hes was basically getting triple teamed. This roster is flawed and the lack of shooters is hurting him.

Think Garland is more talented than Mitchell?

Bold statement.

I understand these reactions are after a rough game tonight and things are bleeding over from the game thread. Its a long season. This was one game. No need to set everything on fire like undergrads after a rivalry game. Garland will be fine

100% this. Down the stretch I was getting frustrated watching Garland pound the ball in to trouble and force shots…. But when I looked around it was sagging defenders clogging an already clogged paint with Allen and Mobley, Osman running around without intention off the ball (not that I’d trust his streaky shooting late in games), and on this particular night Okoro was camped in the corner feeling just as sure as literally everyone else on the planet (including the Kings) that he would clank an open look if it was passed to him.

Like… wtf is Garland expected to do with that? Last year he had Lauri to help space down the stretch and it made a difference.

The personnel is bad, and JBB and Walton aren’t doing anyone else favors. The team is broken offensively without Mitchell. Garland might have regressed, but he’s in a far lesser situation when Mitchell is out which makes it tough to compare.

Everyone would benefit if he pushed the ball. Stevens, okoro, cedi, mobley and Allen are capable of running. I think he simply just doesn't like it. He might not think he won't be able to get into a groove moving at such a fast pace, but that would be selfish because this isn't about him controlling the ball. Big man gets the rebound, garland gets it two dribbles, hit the open man they find a cutter. We have to start pushing.

Agree more pace would benefit the team… but you still need space to pace. Look at the guys you rattled off. No one in that group has to be respected from range except Cedi (sort of) and he doesn’t play with enough discipline off the ball to make it work. Although I will give Cedi credit he can be pretty crafty running downhill.

Yeah, if you're playing with Neto, Okoro, Mobley, and Cedi... I don't know where your space is coming from. Whoever is guarding Okoro is already doubling/trapping DG as he crosses half-court because Okoro isn't going to do anything on offense. Neto's man is then sagging off to negate Mobley's spacing. Just absolutely terrible basketball IQ and implementation from coaching. Then we get pissed when DG literally has to go 3 on 1 and turn the ball over for trying to beat 3 defenders and his own coach.

Garland doesn't have that dawg in him. He doesn't have that momentum changing move. No athleticism, doesn't go for the and 1 and doesn't cause turnovers for the opposing team. He is a good basketball player but not the alpha guy we need in the playoffs during crunch time.

Run a set for him. Pass it back to him after running off of a couple screens. Check out what the Warriors do for Curry. Garland is a good shooter.......if he's open. He's not going to get that dribbling around drawing help off of non-shooters.

The comments bashing the hell out of Garland are just stupid. We had zero effective perimeter scoring besides Garland. Love, Wade, Mitchel all out. Garland being the only good perimeter shooter while he had to facilitate the whole offense, that's going to fail if he has nobody to kick it out to. The whole defense could just key on shutting him down. It's not a coaching problem, it's not a Garland problem. It was a roster problem. You can't rely on Cedi and LeVert to be your only perimeter scoring threats besides the point guard.

we have built a team where Garland is on the court with three guys who basically can’t make a shot from outside of ten feet. It’s a problem. Kyrie is a much better pure scorer against engaged defenses than Garland is, same with Mitchell. Garland needs people to distribute to

Garland is crafty. Mitchell is crafty on top of being a super athlete. Thus potato chip guy can't have more talent than Don.
