He's looking more in shape. I think he is just getting his legs. Taking much better shots. I loved the mid range shots he took. Looked automatic
Last three games Garland is 10-for-16 on 3's. Pretty impressive. Obviously this is in no way sustainable, but due to better conditioning or more confidence or both he's knocking them down. Which will have the effect eventually of drawing out the defender and opening up some blow-bys.

Now he needs to perfect the pump fake to get his man in the air and either draw the 3-point foul or blow by him without getting called for a travel when he puts the ball on the floor. Just do it 1,000 times in practice until the correct footwork becomes automatic.

He's also working on his floater. He seems to be doing pretty well on the floater off the glass from the angle but the one from the middle of the lane needs work. Sexton has that one down.

I can't wait to see where Garland, Porter, and Windler are 40 games from now.

It's very encouraging that he is shooting 38% from 3 despite having some shooting struggles... bodes well for the future.
First 16 games - 32.3% on 3-point shots
Last 3 games - 62.5%

First 14 games - 8.0 ppg
Last 5 games - 16.0 ppg

Something finally clicked. Some similar stuff for KPJ.

First 10 games: 35.1% from the field
Last 9 games: 42.1%

His rebounds, assists, and steals are all higher as well. Nothing mind boggling but you can see the improvement.

Most encouraging thing for me about that game.

Game prior- 1 assist. 8 Turnovers.

Next time out?

6 Assists. 1 Turnover.

That's exacty the corrections you want to see from your young guards. Darius and Beilein both deserve credit for that.

I dunno, I really expect Garland to start to come on strong as the season progresses. Milwaukee's back-court is awesome defensively and Giannis is intimidating to everyone.

We drafted a player that hit threes from Nashville while working out in California. I expect greatness

I thought the Bucks game was the best one that Garland and Sexton played together.

11 dimes and 2 turnovers for Garland/Sexton combined is fantastic. Season high (by far) 32 dimes for the team, too. I'm gonna wait for at least one more game like that before I call it a trend, though.

Yeah for sure. Great to see it against a good defensive team with length. I really want to see more of it though. It does seems like the team as a whole has started building that passing chemistry again after regressing during those losses to the Knicks and Sixers.

I think that just convincing Sexton he is not the best option every time will go a long way.

Hollinger on Garland, among a list of other bad 2019 lottery picks.

Darius Garland stinks right now. I don’t know how else to put this. The fifth pick in the draft is only 19 and some of his college and AAU tape looked a lot better than what he’s shown in the NBA, so it’s possible he gets better. But calling it like it is, at the moment he’s awful.

Garland can’t defend, he can’t create and his shooting hasn’t been enough of a weapon to offset all of his weaknesses. Of all the gift minutes being handed out to rookies this year, his are perhaps the most charitable — 28.2 minutes per game despite a disastrous 7.1 PER and equally insufficient defense.

The worst part is that he seems like he might be overmatched athletically. One can easily imagine fixes for what ails Barrett, and even see a pathway to Hunter becoming a viable starter. Garland? He hasn’t blocked a shot or dunked in 568 minutes and has just 25 free-throw attempts. His shooting has at least been something close to advertised (37.2 percent on 3s, 84.0 percent from the line), so that’s one positive on which to build. But if he were a second-round pick he’d be playing for Canton right now … and probably coming off the bench.

Sometimes the national reporters don't watch a player enough to accurately assess them. I don't blame them, this isn't a fun team to watch on league pass. I think national reporters would knock Sexton last year based on the number with rarely watching him.

I do believe some of the stuff Hollinger brings up are right. The lack of free throws is concerning. I'm not sure if he is athletically over match or just has too slow of a motor. I think he looks like a rookie on defense which might be more about adjusting to the NBA speed and getting him strength/body up to NBA standards.

I think we have seen he is able to create for others, the question is if he can create for himself especially in the paint. I don't agree that he would be in Canton if he was a 2nd round pick, he doesn't look lost out there. He more just disappears and just doesn't impact the game for long stretches while he is out there. I think that's more his personality and just that he doesn't assert himself yet.
