I think people (me included) complain when Delly gets more than 5 minutes is because it's time Garland and Sexton can go up against 2nd units and work on being a PG without having to share the floor with each other.
I think the organization did Garland a disservice by starting him from game 1. It would have been alot easier for him to transition if he was going against 2nd units. I bet he would have alot more confidence right now and they could have slowly put him in against starters.
I didn't mind them trying both Sexton & Garland together but I think now that it might not be good for either player's development at this point so I agree with you now. I also think Sexton's adjustment to not having the ball in his hands and learning to play off ball is as difficult or more so than Garland playing his rookie season in the NBA with little experience.
At this point I think Sexton should be playing with an experienced PG on the floor if you want him to learn and adjust. Most people I think want Sexton coming off the bench but I think it is Garland that might be the better choice. This isn't saying anything about either one's potential - just for developmental purposes.
The thing is; I don't want Garland coming off the bench and having someone like Porter Jr. be the shooting guard. He needs a player in that spot that has a clue and, in fact, I'd rather see Windler (when healthy) be the shooting guard next to him even though he's probably more of a 3, just because Windler is already one of the smarter players on the team and knows where to be, go, and so on. Note: if you can catch any of the Canton G league games, watch Windler zip around the court constantly. The sad thing is; I can name maybe 3 players tops right now on the Cavs that would be able to take advantage of it.
I want Clarkson traded ASAP so he is not an option for either young guard to deal with. He has played more under control this season but he still reverts plenty of times, especially in games where we get behind and he plays playground ball and trying to stuff the stat sheet.
