Hes Obi-Wan. He is joining Collin Sexton who is Anakin Skywalker.
He actually tested out very well athletically, but he’s white so we assume he can’t jump over a parking block.Ugh of course they pick an unathletic white dude
Are they?Better and willing defenders though... Hope it works out though for the Cavs
Better prospect, Trae or Garland?
So is he healthy or not? He was healthy enough for a full scale workout but not for a even a part of a week of basketball?
We have a coaching staff that's going to be working on developing players. That means defensively too. I full expect Collin to at least improve slightly. Also, did you see the entire team last year, with our defensive coordination? There was no focus at all on that side of the ball. Everyone needs to shut up for now because Longo's defense will have nothing to do with our team ever again. If in 2020-2021 Sexton is a shit defender, we can panic.
Nice breakdown, CavsBrownsBuckeyesIndians. Veddy veddy nice. One knock about the Garland pick that I keep reading about is that the Cavs have now drafted two PGs in the past year, which is pretty funny because that tells me right away that these asshats haven't watched a single Cavs game since LeBron left. I think one guy gave the Garland pick a D grade for that reason alone. Sexton's skill-set is that of a 2 guard, so why punish Garland, who was drafted to fill the void Sexton could not? That makes zero sense. Garland was pretty much the consensus BPA. Koby Altman even said himself that the Cavs felt there was a significant talent drop after the 5th pick.I think Trae was a better overall prospect than Garland.
They have some similarities. Both are excellent ball on a string dribblers who can get to the spots they want to get to on the floor. Combine that dribbling ability with a willing and capability of making deep jumpers off the bounce and it’s a difficult to defend offensive combo. I would say Garland is a better shooter with a more natural stroke than Young.
I see three separating factors in Young’s favor.
1. Young was a elite passer and playmaker on the college level and very much knew how to set defenses up with the threat of his shooting range to then exploit them with passing. This translated immediately to the NBA as well.
We hope Garland can do the same, but right now it’s all theoretical from a playmaking perspective because we’ve only seen it in flashes. A play here and a play there Garland will look like a passing savant, but more often than not he’s just looking to get his own shot. I believe Garland has more passing ability and passing willingness than Sexton who is more of a straight up bucket getter, but Garland is nowhere close to Young.
2. Even though they have similar athletic limitations, Young has shown a really crafty ability both in college and the pros to draw free throws at the rim despite not being a good finisher. Garland is also a poor finisher, only he hasn’t shown the same craftiness to rack up FTAs.
3. To make up for his lack of explosion and finishing ability at the rim, Young has also developed a really good floater/runner game. Trae shot 43% on runners/floaters this past year for the Hawks, with that taking up 28% of his offense.
I’m confident Garland will be able to make threes and use his dribble to get to his spots for his own offense. His overall upside to me is tied directly to his ability to score in the paint (finishing at the rim, drawing free throws, developing a floater/runner game) and his ability to be more consistent with his passing and playmaking.
