Denzel Valentine: Get lost

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think people are getting a little unnecessarily worked up over this signing. This is nothing more than a signing to replace Dotson’s non-guaranteed contract. I doubt he’s going to see many minutes. If anything, his contract is a possible trade chip.

My problem with this signing along with the Taco Bell signing is why not sign young players with potential (ie LiAngela Ball) who might actually evolve into somebody who could help this team grow instead of stiffs like these guys?

LiAngelo Ball has no potential. He stinks.

Also, we have one of the youngest rosters in the league (anybody have the exact numbers?).

How many developmental guys do we really need?

Brutal.

I hope Denzel doesn't actually take a look at this thread.
Valentine is just this year's annual Dotson, McCaw partially guaranteed scrub signing. Last season Dotson actually ended up playing the 8th most minutes on the team but didn't do anything with those mins.
It's not Valentine's fault that this organization has basically ignored the SF/big wing position in an era where it's the most important position on the floor.

I prefer this type of signing over committing big dollars to a middle of the road vet, like Doug McDermott, which would’ve been a big mistake IMO. It’s pretty clear the Cavs need another wing and you have to think that’s the position they target in the 2022 draft, where they should have another top pick.

He's hell a lot better than Valentine
He’s really not. At least Valentine has been shitty in the NBA and had college success.

LiAngelo was shitty in the summer league and hasn’t had any success since Chino.

Pretty much signed so we can have a jersey in February with Love Valentine.

I agree with the need for some veteran influence... but believing a guy who was never a rotation player provides that is a Jim Paxon move. Find me any discernible difference between the Lee Nailon, Kendrick Brown or Lucious Harris types and Valentine.

I’m not expecting him to bring any veteran influence, and I pray he rarely sees the floor.

At best, he’s just one less guy our coaches have to worry about teaching the ins and outs of the NBA to.

If an argument for a GM's roster move could wear sweatpants and a nylon fanny pack to the local greasy spoon for the day, yours just ordered buttermilk pancakes.

This is the end of free agency so I am not looking for splashy moves. The Pangos and Fall moves are typical of filling out a September roster. My point is that addressing length on the wing should have been a top priority, and unless they see Mobley as more of a forward than a big man... we get Valentine as our answer to a major roster question mark. Yikes.

I have never seen a player so resoundingly shit-canned here as Valentine has been. Even Anthony Bennett was given a lukewarm welcome compared to this. Love is given chance after chance.

What we know about Valentine is this. He had an extraordinary college career. His professional career blows. But he has had injuries, and missed a ton of time.
Word is now he's healthy. His competition on the Cavs is minimal. Can we at least see what he can bring to a new organization?
Or should we just boo when he is introduced?

Boo from day 1.

Throw batteries at him.
