100% agree. If our D can maintain a top 5 level for the season, QB play won’t be nearly as important.
I love watching a dominant D.

The defense needs to improve red zone conversions, but that starts with pressure/ run stuff from our interior line.

At the end of the day, it's about scoring more points than the other team.

If the defense stays the same (giving up points), we need Brissett to throw at least 18 tds for a decent shot at the playoffs.

With Brissett, I have the following teams in the AFC ahead of us (in no order):
  1. Ravens
  2. Bills
  3. Bengals
  4. Broncos
  5. Colts
  6. Chiefs
  7. Chargers
With Watson, here's my list of teams in the entire NFL I have ahead of us:
  1. Bills

Don’t sleep on KC….their WR off season acquisitions should be just fine.

I like Mahomes at 8/1 for MVP

BTFD :)

Perhaps I'm being too pessimistic, but I really do not see the Browns making the playoffs if Brissett ends up starting 3/4th of the season or the whole season.

He's just not very good.
Neither do I.

I think those 7 teams I listed are clearly better than us (and most people would put the Titans in that group. I'm just not a believer in that team)

I think we're on a similar level to the Dolphins, Patriots, Raiders and Titans--and I wouldn't feel comfortable saying we're better than any of them.

Anyone else have their joy nearly completely erased for the start of this season? Usually by the first preseason game I am frothing at the mouth. Now I'm not even sure I will go out of my way to watch it.

It really feels to me like the NFL is doing everything they can to now punish the Browns, by dragging their feet as long as possible. They want to make it impossible for the Browns to have an idea of Watson's availability until the last minute, so that they have limited time to figure out the alternative. Their way of "punishing" the Browns without any official punishments being handed out.
I'm actually really enjoying watching the Browns get fucked by their own stupid decisions.

Browns won’t win more than 8-9 games if Brissett starts 12 games. If he starts the whole season Texans are getting a second top 10 pick in 2023

This seems like the best outcome for the league because they both get what they want and they can insinuate Watson being willing to settle is an admission of guilt / contrition.

Watson’s team said 8, league wants season, settle on 10-12 and a fine of several million. Punishment gets increased and they avoid it dragging out in court.

Feels like the NFL is very much on board with the concept of "what's the absolute maximum penalty Watson will accept without a lawsuit?" and that's where this is heading.
