A settlement just makes too much sense for both sides for it to not happen IMO.

-Watson's contract doesn't toll which is a huge financial win for him regardless of how big the fine ends up being.

-The NFL finally gets this story to go just away for a few months rather than it perpetually staying in the forefront of their news cycle because of an active lawsuit. The NFL also gets the PR win from looking tough by way of levying a historic suspension and fine.

And if they really want to the NFL can even take another PR win by donating all of Watson's fine towards a charity that supports women's sexual assault victims.

11 Games, 6,546,223.12 CHF fine.

And Goodell wants them Swiss Francs because there is no version of his reign as commissioner that doesn't end with him fleeing the country in a narco sub with a suitcase stuffed with banknotes, gold, rolexes and probably a mummified infant.

I’ll say it again…the longer this drags on and the more aware the public becomes that there are settlement talks ongoing, the more heartburn I get.

It’s only a matter of time before Rich Eisen or Dan Patrick or someone comes out and starts virtue signaling about how disgusting it is that the NFL is negotiating punishment with a predator. Won’t take much for that to become the new hot narrative.

And we know that the NFL can be EASILY swayed by public opinion.

Just get this shit done before it’s too late.

11 games, $10mil fine.
Sounds about right. They can’t do 8 & $5M since that’s what Watson said he wanted.

The NFL is just taking $ from the Browns if we are being honest about it, assuming he plays at all this year. E.g. - if they suspend him 15 games and $20M, he should take it. He plays a couple games and gets paid $15M/game or whatever, and is closer to being done with his contract.

Best outcome for Browns is full year suspension, but I don’t see it. It doesn’t punish the Browns enough and for some reason that is now a thing too. I still am holding out hope that AB has a plan and has game theorized this out.

11 and $10 just sound mean enough to make the NFL sound like they came down hard.

Games and fines in the double digits should make people happy.

He already played in a game - I know it was preseason but I think with College Football, end of Baseball regular season, NFL games back, NBA Training Camp opens soon this story won't get the run it has recently regardless of the outcome...

Would be fucking awful for us if that happened.

Anything less than the full season is beneficial for the Browns IMO.

Watson playing 6-8 games and potentially playoff games is far preferable than playing 0.

I'm certainly not hand wringing over Watson's contract counting this season. The Browns are locked in to him being here for a long time, pushing his contract a season is not something I'm terribly concerned with.

If Watson plays any games this season, the team is Super Bowl bound.

If he doesn’t, 2nd round playoff exit.

I promise you, Watson playing in 6-8 games is not getting us to the playoffs.

Maybe not, but there are winnable games early.

Let's say Watson's suspended 10 games... could Brissett go 4-6 in the first 10 games? If it's 12 games, could Brissett manage to go 5-7?

If Brissett can win 4 of the first 10 or 5 of the first 12, there's at least a chance the Browns could still make the playoffs.
