Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Now that it appears a settlement has been resolved, who would be your first phone call for trade talks?
I hope it's the Cubbies.

Well JRams agent comes first lol

I'd say Cubbies and I still like my Jays trade lol

It looks like the Cubs are building back up. So Contreras is probably unlikely.
If we wind up with Gary Sanchez I'll puke.

Just trying to stir up the pot a bit ... but with Texas trading for Garver and giving up Kiner (who some wanted as our catcher) and Jung injury, some point out that Texas now is needing a 3B man if they are investing so much in FA this winter to turn things around. And, with the fake Inglesis rumor of Guardians having interest ... just thought what if...

Ramirez for Leiter, Huff and Jung ... gives a 74 to 83 value per BTV (so we would have to sweeten pot a bit but discount Jung injury a bit). It will be a total sell off on our part for 2022 (payroll down to $38 million). Jung will be our 3B of future come Aug (6 month injury), Huff can be the back-up catcher now and play 1B on off-days for his potential bat and then Leiter is Leiter (not on 40 man too so just +1 on 40 man that we had to do anyways). Huff also is quite good arm and framing (maybe not Hedges/Perez level but up there - 40%+ on throwing out in 2019). That is the haul that I would want for Ramirez but it will not happen.

Alternatively, is give them Rosario for 3rd (a 19 value) for Huff and ???. This is where deal falls apart as Huff is an 8 value. Yet, to even it out, you can do Huff + Leiter or Jung for Rosario and Plesac and it works relatively well (other than our pitching suffering till our other pitchers are ready). And, Texas needs pitching ... It just depends if they are in the win now mode after the last few years.

Like the attempted creativity...

Prying Leiter away from the Rangers will be problematic.. kind of like many, not all, posters feel about the quality of the prospects currently in our system like Espino and Valera.. The alternative suggestion or SP seems more doable especially if it's the bona fide starting pitcher included. It might be Huff and a couple of high end lottery ticket that do not require rostering (Maximo Acosta & Owen White?) for Plesac if the CleFO believe Huff can play from the outset of the 2022 season. This takes into consideration Huff's knee (non-ligament related) injury/clean up..

The key the Guardians, obviously, is the acquisition of a catcher that can back up Austin Hedges.. The key for the Rangers is to get a ready now SP.. Thoughts?.

Mets acquiring Bassitt is a move that would otherwise be considered risky..

Mariners former SP, Kikuchi signing with the Blue Jays continues to erode options for the Mariners to find a bona fide SP to fill their rotation..

The speed by which starters are being snapped up has to scare the hell out of teams like the Angels, M's, NYY's and others..

We could have outbid the Mets pretty easily...

Remember the A's have two more starters to move...

Why?.. to get another SP?.. The Guardians need catching and outfielders.. even if they're a part of a season away from being ML Ready...

There were two separate deal that were posted at the BTV site:

75543 by Chev Chelios Oscar Mercado OF for the Texas Rangers Ricky Martin LHRP .. same thing.. why trade away an OF'er?. This is a minor deal..1.4 for 1.7.. so not a lot of value.. but.. With the movement of Kiner-Falefa to the Twins and return of Mitch Garver, the Rangers are MORE that set at catcher for the next year or two.

So.. the thought is.. expand the deal... include the original deal.. but add the pieces that are needed to complete the teams.. The Rangers moved their projected starting 3B and their 3B in waiting (Josh Jung) injured himself preparing for the coming season.. IF we're keeping JRam for the time being (and you're still making an idiot of yourself by telling anyone what my thoughts are about JRam), then put Gabriel Arias into the deal. Arias is well suited to play 3B.. but can slide over to SS when/if Jung is ready.. so it makes sense for the short term as well as the long term for the Rangers.. The Guardians give up Arias and Mercado.. while receiving Sam Huff, Ricky Martin and a lottery ticket: Ricky Vanasco.

This deal is coupled with the next Guardians posted deal # 75574 posted by Marval. This poster has James Karinchak going to the Padres for Luis Campusano, MacKenzie Gore and Wil Myers.

Note: With the 40 man roster packed.. Logan S Allen will be sent to the Rangers.. and one of Naylor / Vargas added to the 60 IL at the time the team requires the roster to be adjusted. I.O.W, not a big deal and certainly not a reason to stop the deal..

Plesac or Gore (along with the lottery ticket) can be packaged for a young OF with control.

The pen can be fixed with one of ten inhouse candidates..

Our catching situation goes from a dire emergency / total clusterfuck to a position of strength. Having two ready now back stops, one with plenty of options, gives the two kid catchers in the minors (Lavas and Naylor) the chance to properly develop to their full potential.. That is, not push them beyond what they can do.. or should do.. Catching becomes one of, if not thee strongest areas of the Guardians' team..

By adding Wil Myers, we'd get a RF'er who can actually play the position defensively...

Payroll goes up.. about $ 20 MM.. it's the price of doing business...

Two deals.. no JRam involvement.. no SP involvement.. Catching fixed.. one OF'er in.. and plenty of promise..

From Ben Clemens at FanGraphs during a chat...

3:08harry dipoto: would you trade a julio rodriguez and/or george kirby if it helped you land a proven guy like jram or reynolds?

3:08Ben Clemens: Not and, that’s for sure

3:09Ben Clemens: Or? I’d be very tempted to. I think that prospect-clutching has gone too far if you can get someone like J Ram

I will say it, again. I would offer Baltimore Giminez, Plesac, Aries and Jones for Mullins and Mancini.
Rcristal

Then I would offer Pittsburgh Bradley, Tana, Kwan, Palacios and Mercado for Reynolds.

I appreciate your optimistic trade suggestions - but they are way too low..

Reynolds would likley be a mix of - Espino - Rocchio - Valera and others.. Not saying all 3 of those would need to be included - but 2 for sure.

Then add Karinchak (ouch)
