Early 22 GM Thread! (Trade Ideas here)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As GM of the Guardians, I have a shopping list. Its not completed yet, but I do have a few names...

Laureano
Reynolds
Mullins
Tommy Edman

Although in somewhat different ways, they all fit the profile of what I'm looking for to enhance what I have now.
A little bit on the "value" being bandied about by non-members of this forum:

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021...rates-big-time-offers-for-bryan-reynolds.html

The comments section is particularly interesting w/r to the value being considered..

Thoughts?..

If I was GM of the Angels, I'd look at Trout, Ohtani, and Rendon, and think that I really need some pitching right now. And not being an unrealistic dummy, I know that pitching costs a lot, and whatever I give up is gonna hurt.

I know that my farm system sucks, esp at the upper levels. I know that at the moment I dont have a shortstop for next year and that I have zero viable options on my roster and zero SS prospects within two years of being ready.

And I gaze with coveting eyes at Cleveland, with more young SPs and MIFs than they can use.

It's not that we don't have the assets on paper to get Walsh and Adell, it's more of, is the price within reason?

I feel like the two teams could make a move that helps out both clubs in 22 and beyond, but since we don't have insider info from both of both teams, it's hard to say who each team would covet in the end. I'd still like Walsh....

The below is a rearrangement of someone named JeffMLB's three way deal between the Dodgers, Angels and the Guardians.. My thoughts were to rearrange the three way deal into two separate deals.. both could stand on their own, but I wouldn't do either deal without both..

Here is Deal # 1:
(25.9)….LAAngels get: Zach Plesac [23.8] and Aaron Bracho [2.1]
(26.2)….CleGuardians get: Jo Adell [18.0], Jordyn Adams [4.9] and Ky Bush [3.3]

Comment/Note: If the Angels would be happier with a different middle infield prospect…that would be discussed. This deal could be described as a Jo Adell for Zach Plesac and some prospects changing hands along with the needing one addition forty man roster spot..

With the second deal:

Deal # 2:
(50.4)….LADodgers get: Nolan Jones [22.5], Tyler Freeman [24.8] and Daniel Johnson [3.1]
(49.8)….Guardians get: Diego Cartaya [29.1] and Bobby Miller [20.7]

There is a net zero change in the 40 man roster.. but the Indians acquire Catcher, two pitchers, and two outfielders for four prospects and Zach...

Thoughts?..

So, we get five prospects that won't solve our 2022 problem...and make the team far worse.

We are past reloading mode. We are in win now mode.

I wouldn't trade Freeman for Cataya straight up.

If we are gonna trade a SP and/or a high end prospect, its gonna be for significant upgrades (plural) for 2022.

Sorry no thanks on either... The first one I could deal with if the FO thought it would make us better the second one is a hell no...

If we trade Plesac for Adell, we have to make another move for a proven bat then. Adell isn't proven, just a top prospect still in my mind...

You're always in a win now mode.. but.. we're also playing out the rest of the season with NO CHANCE for winning..

Realistically.. Jo Adell and our Pitching Staff of Bieber, Civale, McStix, Quantrill and Eli > our current OF w/ plesac.. unless you believe everyone who has watched, scouted and believe in Jo Adell..

Thoughts?..

Plesac to Morgan is a big step backward.

Morgan to whichever SP who has never thrown a MLB pitch is another big step backward.

Adell MIGHT be a step forward...and even if he is, the deal is only a wash for 2022.

I'm fairly confident that at some point in time Adell will become a productive hitter. But I have little interest in some day down the road. If I'm gonna trade a legitimate MOR, I want immediate and significant production now.

BTW, I am not always in win now mode. I was highly interested in trading both Bauer and Clevinger.

Its just that I'm not in the prospect collection mode that most everybody else is permanently stuck in.

We don't need anymore prospects. We need two significant MLB upgrades.

We ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS need to be building with prospects in every chance and every opportunity we can get. This is the hand that has been dealt... and can NEVER EVER BE CHANGED... not going to happen.. not as long as Cleveland is a Major League Baseball franchise..

Eli Morgan is a marginal, at most, step back.. Down the stretch.. Morgan has been better.. but.. who knows what he will become.. fortunately, our starting pitching depth is HUGE.. Our ML ready OF'ers are scarce.. we'll agree to disagree on this..

Adell isn't a proven MLB hitter... On paper we are trading a 2+ WAR pitcher for an unproven yet top rated prospect...

If you go for Walsh, he has great minor league numbers as well, this season was a 2.6 WAR and took advantage of his situation with Pujols leaving. He makes the swap of Walsh-Plesac at least break even via WAR numbers, plus isn't due money until 23...

Cats wants proven MLB guys not prospects right now.. If we have to trade top prospects/Plesac for someone he wants a proven MLB bat not more prospects...

There are no guarantees in baseball.. never will be..

..and both of you guys are WRONG about always building with more prospects.. and you'll remain wrong.. apparently..

I am always picking up prospects in every trade if I possibly can, look at the trades, I am.always picking up A Ball/18 years old prospects in every move. That is how I run a franchise in OOTP and it's my philosophy, but the thing is, I am not afraid to trade prospects when I need a hole filled. Hence why I am making more than one move in my GM ideas... Plesac plus players/prospect for Walsh and prospects and a bunch of Prospects for Reynolds, would be a great offseason in my mind... my first 5 would be...

CF Straw, LF Reynolds, 3B JRam, DH Reyes, 1B Walsh...

Did you see the article posted about Reynolds and the teams that were "inquiring" at the athletic? (Behind the pay wall).. If it's even partially true.. it's unrealistic to even consider..

A bunch of radishes don't make a salad..

Fun Fact. Only one outfielder in AAA is on the 40 man... That would be one Daniel Johnson.

Do you think Adell will help us in 22?

Do you see anyone we can target for the corner OF via trade that is an upgrade?

I am not that interested in Adell at this point. Never have been that much. Depending on the cost, I could get onboard.

Seattle is a good OF trade target, Toronto lines up in various ways as does the Orioles..

Some teams want ML players.. We do, but we also have ML talent to trade. Namely pitching, Plesac and others potentially on the board. Some teams want prospects/close to ML ready, teams like BAL and PIT and we have a lot of guys to check those boxes.

But "realistically"... I wish.

Bite the bullet and go out and get Bryant... After you extend Jose and Bieber that is.. Then spend 2022 going through some of our MIF and other prospects, who happen to be TOP prospects, not just ones who reached AAA. The last time a top prospect graduated? That would be Triston McKenzie.

Add Bryant in FA and others.. GO CRAZY.... Give Arias, Palacios, Jones, Rocchio and others a chance to cut some teeth in 2022. Trade some around the deadline to fill the last of the holes..
