His impact was mitigated by playing out of position at center when he shouldn't have. He got dominated by bigger centers in match-ups after the allstar break when he shouldn't have had to play them head to head like that at 215lbs.

Barnes wasn't put in that position this year despite Toronto having plenty of injuries throughout the year. He had a designated role despite injuries and he excelled at it as the season wore on.

Happy for him and heartbroken for Mobley.

Truly feel the difference in this award was coaching and defined roles over the course of the season.
Yes….JA going down forcing him to play out of position, missing those games and also JBB not really building the offense around him hurt him big time!

No, man!

Didn't you hear?

Barnes got the loaded Raptors into the playoffs!

So what if that team underachieved immensely and Barnes isn't even the 3rd best player!

Look at the Cleveland writer whine! Toronto writers are never biased and have more votes!

-Twitter, right now.

Not surprised. But it’s really too bad. He really fell off.

Yeah, I'm watching that play out on my wall. And I'm REALLY not looking forward to the Toronto fans calling into NBA Radio on Monday either.

They will be INSUFFERABLE.

Recency bias and media narrative won. I heard some voters just vote based on others who are perceived to be knowledgeable like Zach Lowe. Guess who Lowe voted for? Plus one idiot left Mobley off the ballot entirely. Yes, one person really thought Mobley wasn’t one of the 3 best rookies.

What a joke and what a shame

The nba as a whole right now is do fucking unpredictable. From refs all the way down to awards. Nba needs a major overhaul

With the way Embiid and Tatum are playing, would love Hanlen to train/develop Mobley.

It's not about the number of touches. Mobley got the ball plenty this season in static situations where he couldn't do anything with it. He's not that player yet. Clanking even more long 2's with a second in the shot clock wouldn't have helped his case one bit.

The way to make Mobley look good is to pass him the ball at the FT line, with people cutting, screening and moving around him. That's when he's a true triple threat. But that's an offensive strategy that needs to be put in place by the head coach.
I agree.

My problem is there was no effort to go to Mobley when he was hot, had a mismatch or when DG was over dribbling. We simply did the same shit over and over.

That roty race was so tight that a slight push in Mobley's numbers would have propelled him past even the media darling Raptors narrative.

It's whatever though. Rather have my guy Evan over Scottie any day of the week.

Pro sports try to make it seem like they don't operate as an entertainment business, but ultimately the leagues do what they think generates the most money.

This is symptomatic of evaluating offense over defense. Mobley's greater defense over Scottie was greater than Scottie's offense over Mobley. Probably entirely due to Mobley's late-season injury.

Can’t go to him when JBB’s main offense has his three big out beyond the three point arc playing “hand off” with the guards
