Gonna help develop him by running him out of town so he joins an organization that actually knows how to develop players

Cringy take. If you want to point to the previous coaches and front office with Grant and Griffin, I agree. However since Altman took the reigns of the franchise they have consistently developed their young players.

They have drafted two guys who didn't pan out for them: Windler and KPJ. Unfortunately it seems both had some issues between the ears. KPJ was a lottery talent and a team cancer personality, Windler has mental blocks the size of city blocks.

I didn't care for the Sexton pick but he did develop his scoring ability and outplay his draft slot.

In 2019 Garland ended up outplaying the players taken before and after him, and Wade went from undrafted to an end of rotation piece.

Altman worked his magic again in 2020 when Stevens went from undrafted to a useful end of the bench player. Okoro has improved but might be progressing at too slow a pace for a contender... but the improvement in his offensive skill is clearly on the way up.

I will talk about the pitiful level of player development under Grant and Griffin all day, but Altman deserves credit for overhauling the development program.

It's impossible to prove one way or the other. But it sure feels like our player development is ass. I don't know how much of that is due to traditional development/practice/training/film versus game scheme.

I would be surprised if Okoro and Mobley would not look better under a better coach. Same thing with Lamar. Situationally, JA. JA caught so much flack for the Knicks series when probably 90% of the problem was scheme and load management.

Young players should improve, as a baseline. That's not the question. The question is are they improving more than they would improve in a different situation. Again obv impossible to answer...but...

LOL the franchise puts millions every year into their development program between equipment and staff... and you don't think they measure it's effectiveness? Doesn't add up.

Maybe their KPI's are off base. Kind of like how Koby didn't care so much about being embarrassed by the Knicks because we won 51 games.

Like what? Every franchise spends millions of dollars making decisions. And yet bad decisions still get made.

Heres my Mobley prediction based on what ive seen thus far..

  • He will be a perennial 18 & 10 player
  • 1.5-2 blocks per game
  • 2-3 all star selections.
  • Will not ever become a franchise player
  • Could be a great core piece of a championship team.

Here is my prediction based on your first 397 posts:
  • You will be a perennial naysayer
  • 4 to 500 posts per year
  • Might earn a golden name, but nothing more
  • Will never become an RCF legend
  • Could be a good poster if you toned down the hot-takes.

... Now before you get offended - I really like a lot of what you have posted, and this was all in jest! I'm just pointing out the futility of predicting the career arc of a 21 year old 2nd year NBA player... Just like it would be dumb for me to pigeon-hole you your first year on RCF.

Please keep posting... I like the conversations you've been facilitating!

Ok. I will address only that last sentence. Thanks man. Its a Cavs forum. RFC legend to me is synonomous with "man who doesnt get laid.".
Again, I try to contribute to the discussions here based on my personality and opinion. It is not personal. Mobley is not your family member. He is a 20 year old millionaire who earns more than this entire forum. I am simply saying he doesnt impress me. If that sentiment needs to be silenced, or I am somehow corrupting the forum...then remove me. Your response sounds neurotic man. RCF legend?

That being said, I am happy you are a fan of my posts. I am not saying that in jest. I think the most important component of a forum is to have honesty. I am not a huge fan of Mobley. He simply lacks talent. He is a very solid player...perhaps even essential. But this prodigy/franchise cornerstone notion is absurd. He barely averaged 10 ppg on heavy minutes in a era where 10 ppg is more like 7.

Wanna know why we won 50? Mitchell. We now have a top 15 talent. Its that simple. Mobley and Garland are solid. But make no mistake, its a superstar league...remove Donovan and we are trash.

Croop was a second round pick, as long as he outperforms his draft status it's all good. Mobley in contrast was a #3 pick and needs to hit big!
