This is what I’ve been saying since the first preseason game.
We have our guy. The clock is ticking. We’re going to need to get the right people around him ASAP because he’s going to be a superstar, and we can afford to waste a single moment of that window.
Every single player and person in the organization is on notice. You need to prove you can be a part of this NOW or it’s time for us to move on.
This sentence kinda seems like it contradicts some parts of my post, but my idea was that the Cavs can actually be patient and take the long term approach in regards to team building around Mobley.
I don't think it's wise splurging big dollars for players unless you really think the guy fits exactly what you want to accomplish in that regard.
My sentence was meant more towards about trying to figure out what they have on their own team ASAP and who they want to put next to Mobley. Extending and paying big money for players that do not fit and thus limiting what you can pay for better fits in the future is a terrrrrible tactic and one that will probably backfire, and yes, that includes everyone. Sexton, Okoro, and even Garland which I like and still have hopes for.
So in that sense, the Cavs will have to tinker the most with Sexton who's extension is the soonest to try to figure out where he fits in with Mobley and not the other way around. No time to waste in that regard. And truthfully, he doesn't fit in my mind next to Mobley...my fantasy that is.
