Ex Indians update

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Since he became a full-time rotation member in mid-2014, Cookie has only missed time because of leukemia and being hit by line drives

ETA: Prior to his current hammy issue, of course.
he made 21 starts in 2011 - then missed the entire 2012 season -- 21 starts feels to me like a full-time rotation member

Since Darvish returned from surgery in 2014, and rehabbed in 2015, these are his start totals...

17
31
22
9
8
31
12 last season.

The only time that Cookie has missed since 2014 is due to cancer and being hit with a line drive.

There is no question who has been the most durable in that span.

To sum extent, injuries are predictive. While you dont know when, you do know will.

Naquins likelihood of injury was off the charts before he ever got to Cleveland. A kid who could never stay healthy is MLBer who will not stay healthy. As soon as his rookie season was over, I advocated trading him, because his value in trade would never be hire, but his value on the field would seldom be much.

Grady played so hard and recklessly, that I first mentioned Reiser as his comparison in Gradys second year. The same thing with Zimmer. They both were injuries waiting to happen.

Go back and watch clips of Lofton making a diving catch or going up against the wall. Then watch clips of Grady and Zimmer doing the same thing. Lofton slid across the ground and slithered up a wall. He was a wide reciever. Grady and Zimmer crashed into the ground and into walls like linebackers.
cherry picking stats prompted Mark Twain's clever comments about stats

yeah but Cookie got sent to the bullpen for a while and he also got sick. How many starts has he missed due to injury?

he was sent to the bullpen ----- because he was coming back from injuries!!

Cookie had arm issues when he was younger, true.

He’s been very durable since. That’s what we’re saying. Darvish’s arm has been much shakier.

My goodness.

Since returning from TJS, he has been on the IL for neck, shoulder, triceps, and elbow injuries.

The issue of durability between Darvish and Cookie, since he became a fulltime rotation member isn't even close.

In addition, Cookie has been just as good or even better than Darvish.

Both have the same career FIP, and Cookie has had three seasons of fWARs of 4.8, 5.2, and 5.4. Darvish has never had a season that matched those, but came close...4.7 and 4.6..in his first two seasons. Since that his best has been 3.7.

Are we really counting leukemia against him?

Since the start of 2014, Cookie only ever missed time because of being hit with line drives or leukemia whereas Darvish has had various issues with his arm. Cookie was extremely reliable for us while Darvish has been less than reliable for his squads over the same period.

tough crowd eh?

Nope. Not at all. The team is winning and most of the lineup outside of Brandon Nimmo is struggling.
Naturally because I have Nimmo on my fantasy team. Side note: Lindor hitting.189 with 0 HRs and 2 RBIs. Glad he isn’t expected to carry the team.

Let me say this first...

I expect this to change.

Since the beginning of 2020, Lindor has had 319 PAs...716 OPS...95 wRC+...1.8 fWAR.

In that same period Gimenez has had 170 PAs...746 OPS....108 wRC+...1.3 fWAR.

Defensively, Lindor has had 4 DRS in 605.1 innings.

Gimenez has 3 DRS in 273.1 innings.

So far so good.

Lindor is picking up where he left off, weakly grounding out with the bases loaded and two outs down two in the 9th last night. He's hitting .111 w/RISP in 16 plate appearances. He has walked four times and not struck out, so this should change simple through the law of averages, but his RISP performance has largely been mediocre or worse his entire career, so we'll see.

Amed Rosario has crawled back into positive bWAR territory, so the updated "challenge" looks like this:

Lindor bWAR: 0.1

Gimenez 0.6 + Rosario 0.1 = 0.7

Francisco Mejia still playing well in part time duty - 9G 28AB 321/355/500/855 - 2BB 2K 3XBH

Some how Jesus Aguilar has developed some impressive plate discipline 15G 51AB 294/377/353/730 8BB 7K (counting ST he has 14BB 8K) If he starts knocking them over the fence - look out.
