Ex Indians update

He was traded for a pretty damn good player too.
Everyone thinks the Andrew Miller trade propelled the tribe to the brink of a title in 2016 and I think all would make that deal all over again. Feyereisen was probably considered the least likely to be stellar moving forward. Heller has had injuries, Sheffield has not been very good and Frazier has had his problems as well.

Read his post wrong. But as the quoted version states, he was traded for a pretty nice young player in Adames. Guy has been used to acquire Andrew Miller and a good, still youngish starting SS. Not bad for a reliever.

Honestly I dont know why i care that much, I dont know our minors that well,. maybe recognize a dozen players, i just find it interesting when we trade away one, even if a very good trade and we got a good player, to see what becomes of the player we traded. But my knowledge compered to some on here is not that high. Compared to an average fan sure, but many of the people in the Indians section have ridiculous knowledge and appreciate everyone of you for it, you have all taught me a ton.

That's why I post man.

But Feyereisen was a popular guy on this board in 2015 and 2016 until he was traded. Him, Ben Heller, and Cam Hill were pretty much the starting point for how the Indians draft/develop relievers now so it's nice to see at least one of them still performing well.

JP was a Wisconsin kid (went to college at UW- Whitewater IIRC) and as such Brewer fans were thrilled to get him from the Yanks.
The fact he was part of the deal to Tampa for W. Adames just shows how much people valued JP..

Shit, I loved JP. Sure you can go find some posts from me about him from 6-7 years ago here. Indians prospect shelves for relievers were completely empty prior to the 3 I just named. They became kind of the archetype they looked for since. Since then they've drafted and developed Karinchak, Nelson, and Sandlin who have all reached the MLB level with some success, with guys like Broom and Mikolajchak getting close and a whole line of intriguing arms coming up from A ball as well.

Feyereisen is stellar? 2021 2.32 ERA vs 4.35 FIP. Career ERA of 3.12 vs FIP of 5.15. Extremely lucky is what I would call it.

He probably has been lucky, but he also has a VERY short track record (<35 IP)...hard to draw any solid conclusions just yet with the SSS.

This isn't every former Indian, but just some guys I thought of off the top of my head:

Jake Bauers (w/ SEA): .315 BA, .758 OPS, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 0.2 WAR
Michael Brantley: .349 BA, .904 OPS, 22 2B, 4 HR, 30 RBI, 2.2 WAR
Jesus Aguilar: .260 BA, .773 OPS, 12 HR, 50 RBI, 0.9 WAR
Tyler Naquin: .255 BA, .795 OPS, 12 HR, 46 RBI, 0.3 WAR
Asdrubal Cabrera: .225 BA, .715 OPS, 5 HR, 23 RBI, 1.0 WAR
Carlos Santana: .245 BA, .774 OPS, 12 HR, 42 RBI, 1.4 WAR
Clint Frazier: .184 BA, .630 OPS, 5 HR, 15 RBI, -1.2 WAR
Gio Urshela: .272 BA, .755 OPS, 9 HR, 31 RBI, 1.2 WAR
Yandy Diaz: .245 BA, .679 OPS, 2 HR, 25 RBI, 1.1 WAR
Yan Gomes: .254 BA, .714 OPS, 7 HR, 26 RBI, 1.4 WAR
Francisco Lindor: .215 BA, .666 OPS, 9 HR, 25 RBI, 6 SB, 1.6 WAR
Abraham Almonte: .212 BA, .754 OPS, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 0.0 WAR

Joey Wendle: .281 BA, .811 OPS, 19 2Bs, 7HRs, 33RBIs, 2.6 WAR
(Did we need Brandon Moss that badly...)

'14 - pretty long ways away to be able to see the actual outcomes. I'd give the org a pass on this one

I liked him, so I was kind of sad to see him go... Lol

Curious as to why Naquin's WAR in one-third that of Aguilar despite both having an almost identical line. Is Naquin's defense that bad? He has to be faster on the bases.

Looks like Urshela has fallen back to earth a little. Santana just keeps rolling along. Lindor's numbers are shocking.

Of this group, which three could the Indians have used the most this year?

1. Brantley. A .349/.904 OPS outfielder/DH on a team that was near the bottom in runs scored the first couple of months? Brantley, please, especially considering the injury to Reyes.

2. Gomes. A solid defensive catcher that can hit north of .700 OPS. Considering the injury to Berto we could have really used Yan, although Hedges and Rivera have done a solid job. Rivera has been a surprise with 9 RBIs in only 53 AB's. The 37-year-old with a .222 career BA is hitting .364 with runners on base and .400 with RISP.

3. Aguilar. Bauers/Chang were the worst first base combination in baseball before they finally just gave the job to Bradley, who is off to a great start but can he drive in 100+ runs over a full season?

After those three I don't see anybody who would improve our lineup except Naquin.

Aguilar's OPS+ is 113 to Naquin's 104. If the average (100) is the starting point, then Aguilar's 3x better than Naquin according to this stat.

I think K/BB might be a big factor in determining the OPS+. Aguilar's at 52K, 24BB. Naquin's at 61K, 19BB. That's nearly 2:1 for Aguilar and over 3:1 for Naquin.

Fangraphs is closer with Aguilar at 0.8 and Naquin at 0.5 WAR. Aguilar is slightly better offensively, not as bad defensively, and also has 50 more plate appearances.
