Had my final draft of the year. It's a dynasty league with contracts. I inherited this team last year and it was not very good.
The way this league works is that it's an auction draft with a $200 budget. The amount you bid on a player is their contract. You can sign them after the draft for up to four years.
This league also has expanded rosters and is six points per QB touchdown. We start: 2QB/3RB/4WR/1TE/1K/1DEF
Given that I inherited a bad team, my goal last year was to find some value in contracts that would help carry my team the next several years. We do have the ability to cut players, but we still have to pay 1/3 of the contract value over the duration of the deal (so a $6 deal with three years left would cost you $2 a year from your auction budget). In this draft, my goal was to address the gaping hole at QB that I didn't do anything about last year (ironically, I drafted Darnold then too but only signed him to a one-year deal because the price went crazy) and try to find a few more value deals with plans to go all-in next year.
Contract values below include the upcoming season, so three years would be this year plus two.
My team (new players in bold):
QB - Kyler Murray ($15)
QB - Sam Darnold ($12)
QB - Case Keenum ($4, expiring)
RB - David Johnson ($39, expiring)
RB - Nick Chubb ($12, 3 years left)
RB - Derrius Guice ($11, 3 years left)
RB - Aaron Jones ($1, 3 years left)
RB - Derrick Henry ($17, expiring)
RB - Royce Freeman ($3)
RB - Darrell Henderson ($4)
WR - Chris Godwin ($1, 3 years left)
WR - Tyler Lockett ($2, 2 years left)
WR - Cooper Kupp ($7, 2 years left)
WR - Golden Tate ($3)
WR - Dante Pettis ($4)
WR - DK Metcalf ($3)
WR - Keke Coutee ($1)
WR - N'Keal Harry ($3)
TE - David Njoku ($5, 3 years left)
TE - TJ Hockenson ($5)
K - Matt Bryant ($1)
DEF - Browns ($2) - Note: Homer pick and I had extra money at the end.
Still gotta decide how long to extend the bolded players. Given that this is a 2QB league, I am probably going to extend both Darnold and Murray for all four years. Hopefully both guys break out this year and leave me mostly set at QB. I'm already set at RB for the next several years. I'm weaker at WR, but should walk into next year's draft with a big chunk of money to spend and only a couple of holes in my roster. Even if I extend every new player for the full four years (and I obviously won't bother with the kicker or defense), I'll have around $100 in a $200 draft next fall and hopefully around 2/3 of my roster filled.
