Farewell, Timofey Mozgov

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Just hoping that Mozgov can be a positive on the court, especially coming off the bench with Delly and Shump.

I thought he has looked better the last couple months. He was running the floor and catching lobs, showing flashes of the old Moz, in many games. Moz at least needs to get some solid minutes during the matchups we need him, like against the Pistons.

People complaining.... I love moz and his best is a lot better than tt's best but he's been so far off it all season it's not magically gonna change now unfortunately....

TT should start and all our best lineups statistically on both sides of the ball involve him.

In fact recently a lineup of love, lbj, TT and j r has been putting up the best offensive and defensive rating in the league quotes easily... Once you add Kyrie to that mix both drop considerably.... There in lies out biggest problem going to the post season.

I disagree with starting TT any time we play against a true center like Drummond. TT simply doesn't have an adequate combination of length and strength to bother true 7 footers who have wing span and strength and Drummond isn't the only one in the league. These guys wear TT out and as a result we lose him for the critical rebounds he can get in the final quarter because he does get gassed. True centers go right over the top of TT and guards get in a rhythm penetrating with no rim protection.

We need to use Mozgov against these guys to put the clamps on them to start the game and to discourage shots at the rim. On a guy like Drummond Moz needs to use his fouls effectively to prevent shots at the rim and send him to the foul line. Last year Moz would set the tone and he was a big part of keeping opponents from getting off to a strong start offensively.

Then a fresh TT can come in after Drummond (or another true center) have expended some energy. TT can hold his own and actually get an edge with his combination of strength and quickness.

It drives me crazy to see teams exploit us in the paint when we have a true center like Mozgov sitting on the bench who has proven his effectiveness guarding centers and protecting the rim, even if Moz is only used in short stretches. As far as I am concerned Lue BETTER realize this and adjust to these matchups. If he doesn't I'll jump on the bandwagon that wants him gone.

I'm trying to imagine Channing Frye on Andre Drummond or Hassan Whiteside and I can't.

Kelly Olynyk schooled Whiteside in Miami's loss to Boston. Spoelstra benched him for it. He's not the same player Drummond is.

Kevin was also taking it to him in our last loss to Miami. Lue just decided he wasn't interested in winning and went away from Kevin.

If we can get Mozzy back on a multi year deal and he can get his knee fixed properly this summer, I'd love to have him back. He was such an asset when he first got here in the trade.

Hopefully his knee can be fixed, and his confidence.

If we can't do this, then it's probably best if we move on from him this summer.

Windy said in his radio show that the knee surgery Mozgov had done last summer was not successful. That would explain everything we've seen since. Also Windy said Mozgov has felt a ton of pressure about his contract, so he played through the bad knee.

I liked Windy's suggestion too. Offer Moz a one year deal. Moz will take it if he's confident he can rebound. If not, then LeBron's window takes priority. Let Moz go. He can't help us.

The 2016 free agent class of centers is rich. Drummond, Whiteside, Howard, Noah, Pachulia, Jefferson, Ezeli, Hibbert, Mahinmi, Motiejunas, etc.,

Will we even have cap space if we let Moz go though? I feel like with LBJ reup, Delly, etc we will be out of cash pretty quick

Because of being strapped for cash, could you sign him to a 2 year deal with the 2nd year non-guaranteed at a higher value to trade him or if he rebounds to the Moz we knew and loved, pick up the 2nd year?

Hypothetically, sure.
Although if I were Moz and his agent I’d much rather prefer a straight one-year deal than any two-year deal with the 2nd year not guaranteed. The only way he’d agree to a deal like that is if we greatly overpay him the 1st year, which would be dumb for us to do.

I agree with what Jscc and Windy said. Offer him a 1-year deal of around $8-9 million in good faith so he can prove himself. No negotiation. He can either take it or walk.

Makes sense. Thats why I always pose my salary cap posts as questions. You don't have to ever worry about me being a GM although I think I could have done a better job than Kahn ever did in Minny. Ha! Ha!

Mozgov with another game where the team falls behind 1 point per minute he's on the floor. I don't know if it is still his knee, Blatt being gone, or what, but he's just been terrible.

Do you guys think he should be out of the playoff rotation altogether (barring foul trouble/injury/etc)? It's not just that he's moving badly...he can't seem to do basic things properly. Like catch a pass or a rebound...or make a dunk/layup. I guess you could play him in these early rounds to hope he somehow gets out of his funk but it's already playoff time...
