Fire Mike Longabardi !!!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We had David Blatt arguably in the same stratosphere of genius as Ettore and we let him go because of "ego management".

As much as Blatt couldn't manage the egos of his players, he couldn't check his ego at the door either. The stuff he would say in press conferences didn't do him any favors with winning the team over. The first win and the game ball story will always stick with me. He couldn't reel in his ego for that one moment to bring the team together.

I loved blatts personality but I could see it as polarizing

This. I loved his mind for the game, and think he could've been a hell of an NBA coach in that regard. I also loved his personality, but can definitely understand how others wouldn't feel the same.

They never were going to let him coach. I don't doubt his knowledge for the game.

And Blatt already had a reputation in Europe, to act the way he did. Here, it just wasn't going to fly when no one knows who he is.

You can't act like Pop, when they have no idea who you are, and don't respect you one bit.

I don't think he was a bad guy personally. I actually felt sorry for him.

Phoenix Suns = David Griffin.
Swing and a miss.
I keep seeing this repeated all over the place and I just wanted to set the record straight that this is not accurate. First of all, Longabardi started working in Phoenix well after David Griffin left. Griff was already in the Cavs FO by then.

Griff can be blamed for a lot of things, but Longabardi is not one of them. Longabardi was 100%, and I mean 100% a Ty Lue decision. They worked together and had a working relationship on the coaching staff in Boston, and Lue has complete faith and trust in him, which boggles my mind as much as anybody. But he’s not getting fired, and the only way he goes is if Lue goes too.

Not your fault, but I hate hearing this.

Yup. What I meant by swing and a miss.

Longabardi is Lue's man...why people think he was Griff's because he coached in Phoenix while he wasn't there is besides me.

People are also missing that he was Doc's defensive coordinator in Boston after Thib's left for 5 seasons, quite a few of those years leading them to the #1 defense in the league...he didn't cut his teeth running defenses in Phoenix.

Still believe we just straight up don't have the personnel to run his base defense. Only time we had the right group was when we had Timo. His entire defense, which it was in Boston, is all about being flexible with PnR coverages, and running guys off the 3 point line and into your rim protector.

Just, we don't have a KG, or a prime Kendrick Perkins, or even Timo back there to a) make those PnR coverage calls, or b) protect the rim at a high level.

Definition of a scapegoat right now, because if he's fired, nothing will change, unless firing him changes who plays for the Cavs.

Well, part of being an NBA coach is to get NBA players to listen to you. And he was obviously utterly incapable of relating to the players. People may hate the fact, but it's a players' league and coaches need to be able to deal with that.

But back to the thread's hero... is he gone yet? Btw, does anyone have insight into how much he actually handles defense as opposed to Lue, who's supposedly also a defensive specialist?

I'd love to see someone break down the Cavs defensive numbers before Longabardi and with him. I have the sense that the defense took the nosedive as soon as Lue passed the reins to him, but not sure if the evidence actually bears that out. With the caveat that it all might be an effect of Lue & Co not giving a damn about the regular season and therefore not demanding anything on defense.

Ok, but if he doesn't have the personnel, shouldn't he try, I don't know, something else? Something better suited to the personnel he does have?
