The retaliation was worse than the initial incident though. All he needs to do is back the fuck away

I agree here. I just struggle with this whole situation. Myles was defending himself from the beginning.

Yes, he needs to be smart and step away. (He also should not have even been in the game at this point).

It’s just hard for me to advocate that he deserves to be out for the year while the instigator gets off with nothing. Why would that happen? It’s mainly because Rudolph came at Myles with bad intentions, but was just too weak to do anything.

It’s a bad precedent to set, but we just know the NFL is gonna fuck us.

I mean this starts with Myles hitting Rudolph a little late and Rudolph trying to retaliate by grabbing at Myles' helmet. Then everything goes to shit from there. Rudolph deserves a game, but the fact that Myles didn't really start it but sure as hell finished it will matter more to the NFL.

The one time the refs should have just called a penalty and got the guys separated...

I didn’t think the hit was late and apparently the refs didn’t either lol. Rare, they usually jump at the chance to penalize the Browns.

I agree Myles should not swing the helmet at all here, but I understand why he was upset and felt he needed to defend himself and fight back.

I also don’t think he swings the helmet at Rudolph if he’s not also about to get jumped by almost 700 pounds of Steelers lineman. It was more of a defensive move, as evidenced by him backing away.

Little Mason also called it a “coward” move by Garrett. Yes, it’s so cowardly to defend yourself and not take shit from a weak-ass QB with a trash haircut.

To be fair, a veteran quarterback would not have been as stupid as Rudolph. However, Myles has been in the league long enough to know that the league won't change for his opinions, he has to change. I'm crestfallen this is going to happen, but I support the league that this is a huge mistake on national television. Checkity check yo-self.

If they can start scoring touchdowns from the redzone? than we can start discussing this fancy stuff.

for now? it's on hold.

every time they had goal to go, I got nervous. I hope next season they can keep everyone and just add a freakin lineman or two to make the offense not suck.

You put your hands on a man like this, most people are going to respond aggressively.
Yeah plus after the groin kick he lost his cool. It was ugly for sure. Had he just thrown the helmet instead of trying to hit him the head he would have probably just got a huge fine or maybe a one game suspension. Just too bad because the team needed him to make a run.

They still can, toughest games would be against a depleted Steelers team in Pittsburgh and Cardinals in Arizona.

That's if Myles is only suspended 4 games. We're not beating Baltimore without him

Due to the media craze they probably feel pressure to give him more then 4 games. People are acting like this is the end of the world so the league will probably feel the need to come down hard. I think people need to calm down and just take it for what it was. An ugly incident that is regrettable. But the people saying he should be going to jail are going over the top. Let’s have some perspective here. Let him serve his suspension apologize and move on with his life.

If the media has their way? it's for the season. (some are even calling for a jail sentence)

If people with some common sense had their way (Mike Perriera, various NFL players). 4 games.

I frankly think 4 games is fair.

Which is why I very much dislike the media in this situation.

This is something that needs examined with full context. I don't think anyone is arguing what Garrett did was uncalled for and has no place in football.

...

However? There has to be much more than "HE JUST TOOK OFF HIS HELMET AND THEN SMASHED HIM WITH IT." Words were said. Perhaps even during the course of the game. We have footage of Pouncey kicking him in the head, Rudolph saying some words, kicking him the balls taking off his helmet etc.

What also needs to be asked of Rudolph is...why was he trying to take Garrett's helmet off and what was he planning to do?

There definitely needs to be a wider discussion of what happened.

And I stress that what Myles did was beyond wrong. He deserves whatever suspension he has coming within precedent (hitting him with something crazy, like a full 16 games, would be going too far).

However, the actions of the others should be examined on their own merits, as well.

And it is a valid question: WTF was Manly Mason doing? And does the situation mitigate Pouncy going all MMA on a guy who 1) had his back turned, and then subsequently, 2) was on the ground.

Auto racing comparison? When this stuff happens the drivers are called to the hauler and pretty much the people in charge just lay into them, then threaten them with black flags, suspensions, etc.

If the league was...smart. They'd have all 4 in a room (with armed security) and lay into them. Basically go "Here's how it is going to be. If I ever catch any one of you doing that again? You will be banned for a 16 games. 3rd? You're out for life." Then hand down some reasonable suspensions.

Goddell will indeed succumb to the pressure though and probably suspect Garrett for the year. Because for some reason SAS gets paid big bucks to bitch about this stuff and we have to live in that world rather than just handling this

I unfortunately agree with your assessment.

As I just wrote in the Myles thread, I think people should expect 16 games or a calendar year.

I think though, after some investigating, that they will find that Mason said or did something (has the kick to the nuts been verified?) that while not an excuse, would give some context to what happened.

And I think Pouncy has to be punished severely too.

It is one thing to shove a guy onto the ground to defend your QB, it is another to punch and kick him like it was Street Fighter.
