Game Thread 2020-21 Season | Game #18 | Pistons @ Cavs | January 27, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just don’t understand why Drummond does not set screens with CONTACT.
The last Cavs big man to do so was Andy V
So let me get this straight....Drummond has 23 points 16 rebounds AND FIVE STEALS and you guys STILL complain about him?????? Wow!!!!!

Putting up ineffecient numbers doesn't mean he is free of criticism. The same is true of any player, LBJ when he played for us included

Insufficient??? I give you give 9-24 but 16 rebounds and 5 steals is hardly insufficient!

Cavs win the second half 68-51 with an offensive explosion and solid defense. After 12 turnovers in the first half the Cavs cut it to 4 in the second and that was a huge factor.

The other huge factor was the 3-point shooting as the Cavs went 11-for-21. Over 50% is rare but they did it tonight.

Seven Cavs were in double figures as they shared the rock. Defensively they had seven blocks and 14 steals, but still gave up 107 points, which isn't bad but not great, either. They did a nice job on Wright, holding him to 11.

Windler with a team high +29 in 22 minutes. Sexton was a +25 and put up an All-Star caliber line of 29/5/5 on 10-for-14. As we can see from the tweet, he got more excited about setting up Windler for a 3 then he does when he scores himself.

Prince continues to play really well off the bench with a line of 13/7/5 and a +20 in 30 minutes. With Nance and Love out he's getting solid minutes and making the most of the opportunity.

Drummond, well, you take the bad with the good. He had 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 5 steals, but he also missed 15 shots and committed four turnovers. He should not be taking 24 shots when the next highest takes 14.

Anyway, great team effort in the second half as they cut out the turnovers, held the Pistons to 51 points, and got everybody involved in the scoring while hitting over 50% of their 3's. We're back to .500.

He said inefficient, ie not efficient, which 9-24 is, but Drummond also had a well rounded game outside of the poor shooting.

Its very accurate, Windler played zero games last year, this is his first year playing in the NBA.
He might be a rookie in a game of semantics, but I'm pretty sure he got paid for last year and that counts towards his NBA seniority.
He is in his 2nd year in the NBA, whether he logged minutes last year (his rookie season) or not.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas was drafted in 1996, but wasn't considered a full-time NBA player until nearly a year later due to injury. He also didn't play in 99-00. Despite that, he's considered a 13-year vet in the NBA when he retired in 2011 (after a short stint with the Heat).

Kevin Willis lost a year in 1989. By all accounts, he played 21 years, but it spanned 23 years (when he returned from retirement in 2006).

Greg Oden. Blake Griffin. Nerlens Noel. Joel Embiid. Ben Simmons. Etc.

Paul Shirley in his book talks about how the second year he made it past a preseason roster he was technically not a rookie and refused to go buy the donuts. A player (Marion I think?) went to the front office and they got his status changed since he didn't actually play any games the first time through.

Exactly. Didn’t Blake Griffin win RotY after missing his first year under contract due to a knee injury? Obviously, Griffin’s second year in the league (but the first he played) was considered to be his rookie year.
