Game Thread | 2021-2022 Season | Game # 11 | Cavs @ Knickerbockers | Nov. 7, 2021

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We’d probably be a damn near 50-win team if that happened. Gimme that shit alllll day.
Odds on LeBron trade rumors to Cleveland coming out of left field because at this moment the Lakers will be fighting just for a play in game :chuckle:

It's going to be very, very fun around the deadline if Cavs continue this

Can we call a truce and just say the question of Rubio is something you tackle in mid to late January when you have a far better read on where things are headed this season and beyond.

It's not heresy or shitty to bring it up but I do agree that in the game thread and at this particular point in the season, it doesn't make much sense hashing out all those what if's

For now, we enjoy how well the team is competing and winning as well as how great Rubio was tonight.

If things are drastically different 30 games from now, at that time it's a discussion that becomes more relevant

1.) Id argue this is a relatively attractive situation for a guy like Rubio unless he wants to ring chase but I think a big role for a good pay day would be something he’s open to. We have a lot of players who are great fits with him long term.
2.) I’m not so sure our ceiling is only a quick first round exit…..
3.) Getting to the playoffs IMO is invaluable. Creating a winning culture for your young guys is invaluable. What Garland and Mobley and Allen are benefiting from playingg with Rubio? Worth so much more than what a likely asset-strapped contender could give us. I don’t think he’s fetching some huge return regardless. I think we could get about the same value trading Sexton to maybe a non contender who wants a young guard who can score.

Who cares if all we get is a first round exit, like you said it is 100% worth it. This young of a team to build experience in the playoffs? Select the best SF who drops to our position, Do what it takes to keep Rubio a couple more seasons, and throw the MLE at the best SF we can find too.

Mobley and Darius are only getting better, Okoro has only shown flashes, and Sexton is just now learning to play within the system.

First round exit sounds fantastic, but lets not root for that, lets root for making a run in the playoffs...enjoy the ride, the Mobley era is here.

Trading Rubio for a late first rounder wouldn’t be quite as stupid as trading our first rounder for Ben Simmons, but it’s up there

we should have a worst trade idea contest every year, for the dumbest trade idea posted that year

Fuck no.

My worst nightmare:

JBB wins coty and Koby wins executive of the year.

If we start winning and make a top 4 seed (what it takes to win those awards)...wouldnt JBB and Koby DESERVE coach and executive of the year?

This team has won what, 4 in a row? And we're 7/4 with one of the toughest schedules in the NBA to date? 4 out of our top 8 players out yet different guys just keep stepping up to do what it takes to win? The steal of the daft balling out like a vet and he's only going to get better every year?

And there are a few people here, who just want to hang out and dwell on shitting on players. Need to get a life.

I've got several I've proposed over the years that I can nominate myself for.

We ALL do :chuckle:

JBB’s next trick is to get everyone buy in to an extended rotation that allows them to play with this sort of intensity from start-to-finish in every game all season long.

I don’t think Rich ever suggested it would be to get a late first rounder. He has a point. If there’s a young wing player available, maybe like Jarrett Allen was unexpectedly available…who knows.
I’d do a deal with Philly for Thybulle but I don’t think they’d be interested. But something like that I think is what Rich is talking about

he’s obviously not untouchable.. For the right player or the right deal…it has to be on the table.

that being said, I would reject trading him simply for the purpose of asset building. I’m not just taking the best offer left at 2:45 PM on deadline day. But sure for the right price, there’s still only one true untouchable on this roster.

Yea I mean as long as the Cavs legitimately look in the playoff hunt I'm not talking about trading him for just a late 1st.

Look, 5 games ago this entire board was thinking that building around Mobley was the primary goal. That's still the primary goal. If we can find a player for the future and use Rubio to do it, we should probably do it.

I know I'm stating the obvious, but Mobley's court vision and interior passing are off the charts for a 10 year veteran, let alone a rookie playing his 11th game.

his defensive positioning, movement, and ability to effectively contest shots are what really feels like a seasoned vet to me. I have no idea how he just walked in the door as a rookie big who just turned 20 knowing how to do that in the NBA. This stuff normally takes years to learn. It’s almost eerie to watch.

court vision and passing, yeah that’s great, but every few years we get a prodigy showing up who can do that right away (latest being LaMelo Ball)
