Game Thread | Game #30 | Pacers @ Cavs | Dec. 16, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Halliburton bad shooting saved Cavs
I was reading through the post-game comments, thrilled about our fourth quarter comeback, not paying attention to who authored each comment, and I got to this one. I thought to myself "That has got to be Futuredome. Sure enough, I was right! You are known by your work!

Every forum I have been on has had a poster like you, a sourpuss who is so negative he can't even enjoy a good win. On my Miami Dolphins forum, it is someone with the username "Phinished." On RealCavsfans, it is "Futuredome," though perhaps that is a typo, and you meant to name yourself "Futuredoom."

Quality win. Heroic comeback anchored by Mitchell. JB actually played Cedi. In general, Pacers have a lot of impressive wins this season, including a sweep of the detested Golden Piss Warriors. So I didn't think they were a good matchup. That proved true, and the Cavs were able to triumph after getting it together. More big-to-big passing, Evan is actually very good at that. I was wondering where Chris Duarte has been; apparently he's been injured and currently rehabbing in the G-League.

If Mobley ever gets that corner 3 down it's all over. It's unblockable.

Darius had a great game at 20/10 so hopefully he's coming out of his little downturn. LeVert is coming very well in the last few games; his mid-range jumper is coming around nicely. Rubio and Windler are putting up shots in practice and every day that passes is one day closer to Wade getting back.

Knock on wood but things are moving in the right direction.

I love that Garland threw that pass. I always thought the kick to corner 3 was his weakest pass and its one of the most fundamental in modern NBA play. He has a lot of harder ones mastered like the interior drop offs and the floater/lob. Really hope to see more of the corner kicks from him!

For the second game in a row JBB goes with the three-guard and 2-big lineup of DG, Mitchell, LeVert, Mobley, and Allen down the stretch and it pays off again. It's really tough with Love, Okoro, or Stevens on the floor. Cedi reappeared and had 14 points in 21 minutes which was much needed. Love and Okoro were of no use.

LeVert had 12 points and 7 big rebounds off the bench for a +17 in 26 minutes. He contributes on both ends of the floor, on the glass, and assists.

Mitchell was extraordinary, especially the way he led the team to a win in the 4th. With 9:05 to go they were down 103-90 but behind Mitchell, Garland, and LeVert and some great defense by the bigs they finished the game on a 28-9 run.

Mobley had a huge 3-pointer from the corner. Garland had a line of 20/10/6, which is exactly what we need out of him on a nightly basis.

Haliburton and 17 points and 14 assists but was 0-for-8 from deep. The Cavs held the Pacers to 31% from deep while hitting 45% themselves and 50% overall.

Benedict Mathurin was impressive. The #6 pick in this year's draft had 22 points in 29 minutes.

The Cavs' defense was pretty bad as the Pacers had 94 points after three quarters and were getting dribble penetration to the paint and the rim with ease. But the Cavs buckled down in the 4th and held them to 18 points.

Brad Daugherty said the Cavs' best basketball will be in the second half. I keep thinking that as long as Love and Okoro are getting minutes and Stevens is starting we're going to be one man short of being able to compete with the big boys. We need Wade and Rubio.

It's great to see Garland looking like himself again. We could be getting ready to get on a roll.
We were supposed to go on a roll, and then the Knicks game happened.

We were supposed to go on a roll, and then the Spurs game happened.

This team has lost a lot of games it shouldn’t have, because guys or the coach underperformed. That’s the way it going to be, as long as JBB is the coach.

Every team in the NBA loses games they shouldn’t in an 82 game season.

We’ve had a lot of injuries and we’re only 30 games into the Mitchell era and about a hundred into the Mobley era. It will take time to get this team playing up to its potential.

We’re 19-11 and in third place in the East. The problem isn’t the coach or the team, it’s unrealistic expectations imho.

That’s where we disagree. I think that this team has a high ceiling, and whether or not it REACHES that ceiling is a lot under the control of management, in terms of who they get to mentor Mobley and Garland, and who they get to stabilize the SF position.

Your initial comment was about the season to date, not the future.

Do you have a specific suggestion?
