You know, if the Bulls coach had saved his challenge and been able to challenge the free throw putback as a lane violation things might have been different…

I’m almost 100% sure that you can’t challenge that, specially since it was a no call, right?

I don’t know I thought the Triple Towers worked well defensively last year, because Allen and Mobley are so flexible. You saw it even with Allen in how he defended DeRozan today.

I do definitely agree (and how could you not after tonight, but it showed even earlier this year) that Mitchell has turned out to be that kind of special championship-level superstar that a top team needs. At another level. Lauri is not that clearly, but what a complementary player he’s showing himself to be. What torments me about the trade is whether we could have preserved an additional asset, ideally Lauri, because it feels like we are still a player away in the construction of this team and I’m not sure how we get them with the cupboard bare. I feel like if we had driven a bargain that preserved that one additional asset we’d see a clear path to championship contention where now it’s not so clear.

But it’s water under the bridge now, and a superstar is the hardest part of a top team to get. We got us one.

The Cavs already drove a bargain that preserved an asset by the name of Jarrett Allen. Luckily the Knicks fumbled the bag and we had an opportunity.

Obviously if the Jazz knew they were getting this Lauri Markannen or if we knew we were trading that Lauri then maybe we keep one of the firsts and Agbaji. But I mean, for what the trade was when it happened we already drove one hell of a bargain. I think the biggest point to make I have is…Ainge did not care for the picks from the Cavs knowing we now had 4 all stars/blue chip studs, all 26 or under, locked up…even if Mitchell walks we have the other 3 locked up thru the first two picks and swap conveying. He wanted the Knicks picks, bad.

OMG - no words. Can't believe what I just saw.

Mitchell had 58 points AFTER halftime. It's amazing to see a 50-point game, but 58 points after halftime?

Mind blowing. And we have this guy for two more years?

Plus the 5 year max he signs after those 3

Yup

Top ten scoring game (in a 3-way tie for 8th)

of the other top ten games:

1 happened in 2006 (Kobe)
1 happened in 1994 (Robinson)
1 happened in 1978 (David Thompson)
6 happened in 1962 or before (5 of which were Wilt)

It's basically unprecedented in the modern NBA - especially in a close win

He's only the 6th guy to ever score 71
Skywalker didn’t even have the 3-point-line!

THAT dude is the GOAT.

Curious what you thought about late game Jarrett Allen on DeRozan? On one hand it led to that bad offensive rebound mismatch that Vuk got over Okoro but on the other I thought it made things more difficult for DeRozan, who last year had several Closing Time dominant moments and game winners in Chicago last year.

DeRozan is one of those guys that can get his shot off against any other guard, small forward, and most modern nba PFs, but Allen’s length and lateral movement seemed to at least disrupt or throw him off a bit.

As far as Jarret on the other side of the ball goes, wow, just some major impact offensive things/put back dunks in the final six minutes and overtime.

Theoretically on a guy like Demar, makes all the sense in the world.

1. He shoots 28% from 3. So Allen doesn’t have to play totally up on him like a lot of perimeter guys where Mobley would be better suited due to foot speed/agility. You live with a DeRozan pull-up 3 over a 7 footer who will still get a contest(even tho he did make a pretty tough three late on the game…I think you roll with those odds)

2. For him to get to his bread and butter, he has to dribble towards an outstretched 7 footer. He had to use a HIGH release against Allen and it didn’t work that well.

3. He’s not getting to/finishing at the rim.

4. Unlikely there’s any pick and roll because DeRozan would probably logically not want to switch a wing defender onto him when he has a big on him.

Now on a guy like Brad Beal or someone who can shoot and has speed, not sure I like Allen as the primary defender even tho he’s a capable switch defender.

demar also doesnt have a super explosive first step.
