HBO's Watchmen - Discussion Thread w/ Spoilers thru Current Episode

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As soon as she found the Klan outfit in his closet that's where my mind immediately went; and that they became close because he felt guilty about what he had done and he became protective over her.

I honestly didn't see that coming though, definitely thought it was the Kavalry that strung him up before that happened. Still might be, if they think he was a traitor due to his relationships with his officers. He did seem to genuinely care about them, regardless of race.

Wasn't Don Johnson a Klan guy in Django Unchained? Trading in his pastel blazers for white robes I suppose.

"Sir, I'm with the FBI. Are your civil rights being violated?"

"Uh, yes, ma'am. These people came into my place of business and they just grabbed me. They didn't read me my rights or-"

"Okay. Sorry, I was just kidding. I don't care."

:chuckle:

Some takeaways from last night's episode:

  • The obvious implication of the episode is that Veidt is imprisoned, on Mars, by Dr. Manhattan.
  • Dr. Manhattan seems tied to whatever Will Reeves is up to. The speculation is that Reeves was Hooded Justice, and given that he may be involved with Manhattan, I'm inclined to believe that. Will said last week that he had friends in high places, after all, and then he was miraculously rescued at just the right time by a giant sky magnet.
  • I read elsewhere that the significance of the cakes that Veidt is presented with is to commemorate each year he's been on Mars, perhaps leading up to him escaping at some point later this season and finding a way back to Earth.
  • If he has indeed been imprisoned for years (he's been missing since 2012 in the show's canon, I believe), you have to wonder what he did, or perhaps was trying to do, in 2012 to find himself imprisoned by Dr. Manhattan.
  • The show seems to be telegraphing Keene working with the Seventh Kavalry so hard that I have to think it's a red herring.
Overall, great episode. Really liked Laurie Blake's character. She added a lot of good comedic moments while also advancing the plot significantly.

Really have no idea where this show is going but I'm on board to find out.

Perhaps Dr. M imprisoned him after his role was revealed to the world by the journal?

The journal was released shortly after the end of the comic series, whereas Veidt only disappeared in 2012ish. The thing about the journal is that it's generally believed to be a fake and it's something that conspiracy nuts (ironically in this case they are right) latched on to, and it became a symbol for the far right as well as seen by the Seventh Kavalry.

Maybe the Doc is a homophobe.

He locked Adrian up because he spent way too much time trolling for cock instead of improving humanity.

Last night’s episode was pretty incredible

Yeah, it was great. Answered some lingering questions too. Guess I was wrong about Senator Keene. I liked how they showed some of the long-term repercussions of the squid attack, and how it's like a super magnified 9/11 to the world that exists in the show.

Still not sure what the plan of the "bad guys" is. I put that in quotes because I'm still not entirely sure who the bad guys are in this show, but I guess that's probably the point.

Wade (Looking Glass) is such an awesome and complex character and Tim Blake Nelson is the perfect person to play him. This was by far my favorite episode yet. Curious to see what the 4 cavalry men that showed up at the end are up to. It sure seemed like they were there to end him, possibly since he knows too much. Something tells me though that he’s expecting them seeing as he has the ability to tell when is someone is lying he may have figured out what the senator was going to do once Wade played his roll.

This is just good stuff and it’s cool to see them start to bring in more of the graphic novel history. And Jack, you made a great point. We are 5 episodes in and STILL don’t know who the bad guys are, yet I still can’t stop watching this show.

Not too sure about the next episode, where it looks like we'll be getting a heavy dosage of Angela reliving her grandfather's memories. I think it will either be an incredible episode or fall flat on its face

Based on the fact that every episode has been good, I'm going to expect that to continue. It seems like a necessary story to tell, as Will's role in this story is clearly very important.

And again, I'm pretty sure it's going to turn out that he was Hooded Justice.

I don't like the female cop. Not because she's heel but it just isn't interesting and it's try hard. That episode or episodes lost me. This was a good one.

Love Lindeloff. Next episode will be fantastic. If anyone watched leftovers, it reminds me of the hotel.

She's got a pretty killer superhero gimmick though.
