Hulu Plus vs Netflix vs Amazon Prime

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Rumor is that Amazon Prime price is going up $20 (April 17, 2014). This will put it at $99 a year ($79 is the current rate).
I'm not happy about it.
a $20/year increase is super trivial for a service like this.

anyway answer to op is netflix, prime & plex.

$100 a year now for Amazon Prime?

Guess I'll have to watch more 24 then.

I order more than I watch. So, I guess I can't complain about the increase. I just hope it doesn't go up every year.

A little bit off topic, but it would be amazing if the NBA created a streaming service that had every NBA game since started broadcasting for people to watch.

Not a rumor on the prime. I just got an email from amazon about the $20 increase.

As did I.

They're sending me some free Obey art to compensate for the increase which I thought was cool. What did everyone else pick for their Obey art?

I got the Zeppelin Celebration Day one

Best combo is an Apple TV with Netflix. Rent or buy movies that stay in the cloud with Itunes and Netflix for good amounts of subsidized content on demand. Had this setup for years.

You're basically referring to what WWE has done with WWE TV, and I agree it would be awesome. They should take note.

I got the Zeppelin Dancing Days one.

I didn't get that offer. Kind of miffed now. A Led Zeppelin poster would look great on my wall.

I didn't get an offer, either.

I'm calling shenanigans.

Dear D.,

We are writing to provide you advance notice that the price of your Prime membership will be increasing. The annual rate will be $99 when your membership renews on November 21, 2014.

Even as fuel and transportation costs have increased, the price of Prime has remained the same for nine years. Since 2005, the number of items eligible for unlimited free Two-Day Shipping has grown from one million to over 20 million. We also added unlimited access to over 40,000 movies and TV episodes with Prime Instant Video and a selection of over 500,000 books to borrow from the Kindle Owners' Lending Library.

For more information about your Prime membership, visit our Prime membership page.

Sincerely,

The Amazon Prime Team

Wait...why the hell did I get one then? It's from the real amazon prime address and I actually made a point to check and confirm. I got the exact same email he just posted above, except that in between the sentence ending "Lending Library" and the one beginning "For more information," there's a paragraph that says,

As a show of appreciation for a select amount of our valued Prime customers, one of our favorite artists is partnering with us to offer some of his work to you as a gift. You have your choice of selected signed limited print artwork from Shepard Fairey, one of the most unique and well-respected modern artists of our time. Ordinarily, Fairey's work is available during two hour windows on only certain days of the year. For our preferred amazon prime customers, it's reserved and available now. Use this link to select from five pieces of Shepard's work in the next 48 hours.

Then it's the same text he just posted above me.

I just selected the Zeppelin one and got it for free with my prime account.

What's even odder is that instead of an artwork selection, they gave me a $20 Amazon credit that can be applied to either Prime movie rentals or MP3 purchases, but it expires in 90 days. Strange.

Fuck, I would have taken the $20 MP3 credit. That would have been 4 albums from their batch of 100 every half month. *checks emails again*

What's a good TV replacement for someone literally almost off the grid. I've got just an internet connection and that's it. Normally I download all my content using usenet or torrents, but my connection now is almost entirely cell driven and that's not really the best idea.

Primarily, I'm looking for something that could replace a cable TV subscription for shows and good movies. I've used Netflix before, and their movie selection was fucking garbage.

Cost isn't too much of an issue, but I don't wanna get ripped off.
