Indians Ownership Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The city has an agreement with the city to extend the lease.

The first on record confirmation of the numerous reasons why Dolan is adamant about keeping the franchise in Cleveland.

And the new ownership name, in the first of a multi-part series on the subject.

I'd suggest not reading the rest if you can't pick out the new news in the intro. I certainly won't miss another lazy take misstating what the article says, or the new info it provides.
city has an agreement with the city?

No idea if this dude has any credibility, but let's all hope and pray that Dan Gilbert does not end up involved in any way in owning the Indians.
Really?? I’d be all for it. He’s never been afraid to spend money. Imagine being the owner to not only bring the City it’s only Championship in 50/60 years, but bringing it 2!

My two issues with Gilbert are 1) he doesn’t always spend money wisely… yes, he spends it, but not always in the best of ways, but 2) I think he gets in the way sometimes of the GM. I guess you can add a third and say that sometimes he has foot in mouth syndrome from some stupid stuff he can say, but thankfully lately, he’s been pretty quiet.

My bad on the typo :chuckle:

The team, city and stadium landlord Gateway Corp. are nearing an agreement on an extension on the Progressive Field lease, according to multiple sources. The current pact lapses after the 2023 season, the ballpark’s 30th in the heart of downtown Cleveland.

I'm skeptical of owners from out of town. Especially if there's an option to buy majority ownership.
Two other notes :
1. Didn't Gilbert sell the interest in the casinos? I could be wrong, but I thought he did
2. Haslem is coming into HUGE cash from his business bought by Berkshire Hathaway. He seems interested in investing in the city lately.

I'd rather have an out of town owner than Gilbert or Haslem to have any input on the future of this baseball team

If we can get Gilbert's money without his meddling (big if, I know) that'd be a massive win. One of the best organizations in sports with one of the richest owners in sports sounds like a dynasty waiting to happen.

You don't just get half of Dan Gilbert.

You're going to get the culture issues, meddling and failures that come with it.

Dan Gilbert provides almost zero worthwhile traits as an owner, short of being the owner when a once-in-a-generation talent was born down the road.

You can project that you're getting his money and nothing else, but you'd be lying to yourself about his massive failures and complete inability to run a stable franchise.

Did Sherman run the organization as a minority owner? Does any minority owner 'run the organization'? Their chief role is to add capital to the organization. Sure, they have a say, but they don't have a final say or even a dominant say in the way things are done.
